Marvin Fordyce (my father-in-law), born on November 22, 1922, at Florida, Missouri, is the son of Willis and Grace (Elder) Fordyce. My father -in-law grew up in Swedeborg, Pulaski County, Missouri. Willis Fordyce, my wife's grandfather, was born on June 20, 1882 at Maynard, Belmont County, Ohio. He is the son of Joseph Freeman Fordyce, born March 4, 1859 in Washington County, Pennsylvania, and Roseina (Plows or Ploughs) Fordyce, born December 2, 1861 in Yorkshire, England. He had four brothers and sisters. Not long after Willis' birth, the family relocated to southern Colorado, where Willis' father worked as a coal miner, which was his line of work when he lived in Ohio and West Virginia. The US Census for 1900 shows the Joseph Freeman Fordyce family living in La Junta County, Colorado. They would later relocate to Missouri. Willis, who worked as a missionary to the Indians of Colorado, graduated from Park College, near Kansas CIty, and in 1920 graduated from the Presbyterian Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. After serving as a Presbyterian minister in Texas and in Florida, Missouri, Willis and his wife, Grace, settled in Swedeborg, Missouri, where hi! s parents had moved. He spent the rest of his life in Swedeborg, and was employed as a farmer, a greengrocer, and a preacher at a nondenominational church. Joseph Freeman Fordyce is the son of Robert Reed Fordyce, born around 1829 in Ohio, and Julia Fordyce (maiden name unknown) , born around 1836 in what is now West Virginia. The 1850 U.S. Census shows him living in Washington County, Pennsylvania, but the 1860 and 1870 census shows him living near Wheeling, Ohio County, West Virginia. Joseph had at least 11 brothers and sisters, based on census records. He was mostly employed as a coal miner. Robert Reed Fordyce is the son of Thomas and Elizabeth Jane (Moorcraft) Fordyce, both natives of Ireland. We would be willing to share information regarding the Fordyces.
