He said that he has not found any marker with James's name on it. That doesn't mean he isn't buried there as there are lots of just field stones with nothing written on them that are marking graves. He said that there was a skirmish at McCortney mill and Alexander McCortney was killed by Union soldiers, and that his marker is curiously missing also. However, markers were hard to come by doing the civil war and field stones were used. I am sending an affidavit to your e-mail address about the McCortney family that you might find interesting. Also, even though they have found many more graves than what is listed in the headstone inscription book for McCortney cemetery, most are just unmarked field stones. There is no published list. If there are any other names you want me to check on, let me know and I will see what I can come up with. Sorry we couldn't be more help, Mary
