They were from KY.Children's names were Charles William, Nancy Louise (Nanny) and G.E. Bowen. G.E. Bowen's name could of been George Edward Bowen. I would really like to find the maiden name of Chatherine who married George A. Bowen in KY. Also what happened to her, They also lived around Hawkins, and the Waynesville area. According to the records that I have found - Nancy McCortney parents were indeed Alexander and Nancy Ball. But, here is the mystery and I hope your aunts remember something about it. You see, records show that after James McCortney was killed in the civil war, Nancy remarried Thomas Brooks...then I find a few different records that says Nancy died in 1877. Most records say she died in Pulaski, one says she died in Putnam? I haven't been able to find a Putnam. But, here's the part that makes no sense...if Nancy died in 1877, then why do I find the Nancy Brooks family alive and well in the 1880 Cooke County, Texas census? I can only surmise that 1. The death record is incorrect. 2. Her death was faked 3. It's not the same Nancy in texas, as James Madison Wilson had a sister named Nancy who may have married Brooks after Nancy #1 died, but in the census it states that the Wilson children are hers , and a couple of the Brooks children are step children. Doe's anyone know the true death date of Nancy McCortney Wilson Brooks? If it's any help to you the Wilson kids from the marriage later migrated to Graham OK, and later onto Idaho. Graham used to be called Pickens and was Indian Territory when they lived there. And I also found alot of Wilsons in Cook County, I don't remember if there were any McCortneys or not. Anything you can help with would be greatly appreciated.....Rea

Alexander McCourtney md Nancy Ball first, then Emelia unknown. He was the son of Alexander and Comfort Davidson. Alexander and Nancy Ball McCourtney had 2 known children - John M. and Sarah. I don't know if he had children with Emelia. William R. McCourtney md Margaret Ball, sister of Nancy, and they had a son but I don't have his name. William R. is also the son of Alexander and Comfort Davidson. Nancy and Margaret are the daughters of John Ball and Mary Eoff. I descend from James McCourtney and Sarah 'Sallie' unknown. He is a brother of Alexander who md Comfort Davidson. James and Alexander are the sons of John McCourtney and Hannah unknown. The Alexander and Comfort Davidson McCourtney line is fairly well documented. I can put you in contact with a McCourtney researcher who descends from this line - she has a good amount of documentation. My Hannah McCourtney, daughter of James and Sarah 'Sallie' McCourtney, md John Bittick. After James died, Sarah 'Sallie' married again. I have the court papers from his estate, etc. I'm not familiar with the Duke and Big Piney area of Missouri. Or, the McCourtney land that became part of Ft Leonard Wood. My McCourtney's were in the St Louis, Franklin and St Charles counties area very early. I have Wilson's in my line who were from the Jefferson Co area of Missouri. At this point in McCourtney research - I've been at it since about 1989 - I'll take any info you're willing to share!<g> They all have to go back to John and Hannah unknown McCourtney at some point in time - or, at least that's what I think. I'll look up the James McCourtney you mentioned in the 1860. I don't believe I've ever seen anything of Robert's research. Can you fill me in on who he is, etc? Thankx, Mar

My dad and his cousin, Robert, and their aunt ( she's 93) are very familiar (she having lived there) with the Duke and Big Piney area of Missouri. Just this evening we were talking about the McCourtney land that became part of Fort Leonard Wood. We are from the James McCourtney in the other family listed in the 1860 census. I remember seeing some Wilsons listed in Robert's research. I believe that Nancy McCourtney is the daughter of Alexander McCourtney Jr and one of the Ball sisters. His brother, William R. McCourtney, was the father of the aforementioned James McCourtney. My great aunts are old (94 and 90) but they have great memories. They lived in Duke, MO in the 1920's. We had relatives living there in the 1980's. Contact me if you think that we might be of help.
