I live on a farm in Halfway about a 1 1/2 miles from Schofield Cemetery. I have been told that Dukes homesteaded my farm. I found a tombstone in my yard last week. It had fallen over & was buried in the dirt for who knows how long. I picked it up and cleaned it with water. The engraving is real hard to read but I can make out part of it: IN MEMORY, first name: _ ART more letters follow, I'm not sure what (first letter may be M??) last name DU___??? born: OCT 180? died June 18, 1811/1814?? not sure of the last 2 numbers of the year...sorry.I asked the last owner of this property and was told the grave was a DUKES. Have you been to Schofield yet? I drove over there but didn't walk the whole cemetery but I did see tombstones for Jesse & Nora Dukes, infant Jesse Dukes and Newton Dukes.
