The only census I can find John in is 1860, Marion Twp, Polk Co, MO. It lists: John BARD, 26, Farmer, b: IN (later listed by kids as b: IL) Malissa, 23, wife b: IL (aka Melissa C.) Ellen, 2 b: IL (aka Elva Ellen) Lanba B., 8 mos, m. b: MO (aka Landa or Landy B.) Alfred S. Hames, 10, b: IL (unkown relationship) John died in the Civil War, supposedly 21 Mar 1863, Melissa is listed as his widow on his pension card. She remains on each census through 1880 as a widow in the same twp. The 1870 Polk Co census lists additional children: Seigle F. Baird, m, 8, b: MO Sherman G, m. 2, b: MO. (aka Sherman Grant, Grant) I have further info for Elva Ellen, Seigel, and Sherman Grant, but can find nothing on any of the others. If anyone can tell me anything about John, Melissa's maiden name or death info, birth records for Sherman Grant, obits, bios of any family members, who Albert Hames was, etc, I would be most grateful, as I can find none of this. All answers to these questions are in Polk or Greene Co. somewhere! Thanks in advance for any help. Would love to share info. ~~Kay
