They apparently moved to MO prior to 1860 from DeWitt co IL based on the births of the youngest daughers, Martha in IL abt 1856 and Prudence in MO about 1859. Unable to find in MO 1860 census. By 1870, the family is split up and living in Polk co MO. Prudence or Amy P. age 10 with one sister, 11 with the other, is listed in the families of two older sisters, Sarah Catherine who married Daniel W. SMITH and Mary who married James SMITH. 14 year old Martha MURPHY is living in the household of Samuel SHERWOOD, a couple of families from Daniel W. Smith. 17 year old sister Louisa is in the Poor House. Missing are Temperance Jane, 22, and Ellen, 19. Their only brother, Peter Terry Murphy who married Martha Jet Dale on 9 Oct 1859 is in Harrison co MO. Did Alfred and Catherine died in Polk co? When? Where are they buried? Were the two Smith men brothers? Does anyone have this family in their data? T! hanks for any help in solving this puzzling family?
