At some time in the past I thought there was a web site for older obituaries in Polk County such as between 1900 and 1950. If there is/was one, I've lost the URL. Can someone help me? Thanks. Karen V.

He is said to have died there on 5 Mar 1876 and was buried in Sawyers Cemetery. Would anyone have any idea where I might find the cemetery tombstone transcriptions for any of his family? I can't seem to find anythng on the internet that would lead me to him (besides census). He had 14 children in all (not all of whom settled in Polk Co., MO) and any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks, Sandi

Lutisha and William Issac Goswick were my g-g-g-grandparents. Lutisha appears to have died in the mid-1870s as William remarried 'Louisa' by 1880, and is in Lamar Co, Texas. The family was in Camp Verde, Arizona by the turn of the century. I dont know a lot about the Wright family but would love to know more!

Members, please read. We need to remember to change the subject line when the subject changes. Those who receive the digest and those of us who receive the individual posts find it so much more helpful when we don't have to look at every message. Ex: If the subject line is " Jeremy Griffin lived in Canada in 1875", I know he is not mine, and can go to the next message Personally I receive 200+ e-mails a day, and it sure helps if I can read the subject line to see if I need to read the message. Okay, another thing that I need to explain. Anyone can post a message on the "Message Boards", however many, of those are not subscribed to this "Mail List". When you see the following preceding a message: ~~~~~~~~~ ""This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/HMB.2ACE/1.1.2.1"" ~~~~~~~~~~~ To make sure the person who wrote the query gets your message in return, you need to "Post a Reply" on the message board. If you just reply through the mail list, and the person from the Query on the Message Board is not a subscriber, they will never see your answer to them. I hope I made that clearer than mud. If you have questions please ask. Contact me at anytime using: MOPOLK-admin@rootsweb.com Thanks, Kay If you can't be kind, at least have the decency to be vague.

I have found 58 children born mostly in Greene, Polk, and Dallas Co between Aug 1861 and into the early 1900s with the first or middle name of Sigel, Sigle, Siegel, Siegle, Seigel (we Missourians have never been known for our spelling capabilities). These children were no doubt named after the German born Franz Sigel who commanded a German speaking Union regiment made up from mostly German immigrants from the St. Louis area at the battle of Wilson's Creek in Aug 1861. Franz Sigel did not perform well at Wilson's Creek, but that did not seem to impact on his popularity among the supporters of the Union in SW MO. He later became a General Officer. Jerry

Anything is possible :) Knowing the Lock(e) family as I do, in most cases when I find an odd first or middle name, it almost always came from the female side of the family. Odd in the meaning of a Surname as a first or middle name lol. The Lock's seemed to for the most part to go by English tradition and named some children with the first name, but normally middle names of surnames came from the female side of the family. The Lock's of this branch came from Frederick County Virginia, very near where George Washington lived, so my family did use the name George fairly frequently in the early generations. And that tradition continues as one of my cousins is George :) Thanks Don
