    3. The business that probably has the plat book is Polk County Electric on East Jackson and Market, just one block east of square. Jack Glendenning, the owner, is very knowledgable about local history. FYI the 1903 plat book is available for a nominal charge from the Greene County Archives as are plat books from the surrounding counties. Was priced around $2.00 plus shipping. Each place mentioned in Bolivar has its own strengths, Public library has many books, family histories, and all local census on microfilm and all of the Bolivar papers on film. The Ozarks Gen Society in Spfd is open Tues eves., Weds afternoon and Sat., 10-4. Check out their website. They also have many publications for sale that relate to Polk county. Happy researching

    2. If you are looking for something older there is also a plat map for 1881 at the Polk County Historical Society. The Historical Society is closed for the season, but I was told that someone had the same plat map in their business in Bolivar [anyone know where that is?]. Gayla

    3. The library in Bolivar has a lot of good information. The genealogical society also has a library on the square. If you have a chance you should also try to make it to Springfield. The Springfield-Greene County library has a big genealogy section. Then there is the Ozarks Genealogical Society library (the Greene County genealogical society for the most part). If you need addresses or directions, please let me know. I live in Springfield and have spent a lot of time researching in Polk County because that is where the majority of my mom's family was from. --- Ronnie Ellis <[email protected]> wrote: > I will be visiting Polk Co in the next few weeks. > Are there any particular > places that are good for genealogical research - a > local library, an > historical society, the courthouse? There are conflictin reports as to her birthplace, either Arkansas or Tennessee. We would love to be able to place her with a family before she married but have no clues up til now. 1. [MOPOLK] What is this building?
    2. Christopher Swingle, DO
    3. According to the plat map of Polk County 1903, Jefferson Township (http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~judysstuff/polk/09.gif), in the NE corner of section 20, Twp 35, Range 23, in the 320 acre plot of land listed as belonging to G.W. Skidmore, there are two buildings. The first is adjacent to the road, while the second is about a 1/2 mile south of the road. I looked at the aerial maps of this place on TerraServer (http://terraserver-usa.com/default.aspx). Currently there is a farmhouse just south off the road (now East 330th road, east of Hwy O/South 70th Road and west of South 85th Road), but the second structure to the south looks like it could be an abandoned house/barn/I don't know what. If anyone can tell me what this building is/was, I would be very interested as this property did belong to my ancestors about 100-150 years ago. For you GPS buffs, the mysterious building is at- Decimal Latitude: 37.7783, Longitude: -93.4870 Deg/Min/Sec Latitude: 37N 46' 41.88", Longitude: 93W 29' 13.19" 2.2 miles (as the crow flies) from Rondo, bearing 291.9 degrees. As a follow up question, when did the railroad running from Flemington to Bolivar quit running? Thanks for any help on this oddball query! Chris Swingle
