I am wondering if either of you know where or what - happened to the daughter Nelly {Elender/Ellen} Johnston Smith? She was the wife of my Hugh Smith. The last I knew they were in the 1850 census of Polk County, Mo, and they had his daughter Martha {from a previous marriage}, and their son James living with them. I cannot locate them anywhere. Hugh Smith, son of James H. and Prudence {McGee} Smith was born abt 1821 in Mercer County, Kentucky. Any help or clues are appreciated in helping find these "lost" ancestors. Judy Smith/Colorado

Lanita, try Benton County. I think it was SS Burdette that was in that county early. I don't have anything that would help you myself. Linda

All of Samuel Armstrong's children (Mary Jane (m. Lucian B. GILLENWATER), Abner, James, Sarah (m. John A. COWDEN), Hannibal and Lydia (m. Z. T. L. I have not located where she or Lucian B. are buried. An internet source gives Lucian B. Gillenwater's father as Joel G. Gillenwater. Hope this helps. Linda, John is descended from the CAVINs too, and info was sent to his mother in the mid 1950's. We are just now trying to document the CAVIN and BURDETT as well as the GOODNIGHT families. Happy Hunting, Lanita Families are like fudge. Mostly sweet with a few nuts!
Hazel Cavin was a Prater from the early Prater line that settled in the area and her husband Vi was from the original Cavin family who also were early settlers and for whom Burdette-Cavin Cemetery was named. I don't know how much has been done on the Prater family, but a lot has been done on the Cavin line. Both of these families lived in the area that later became Goodnight. You can find them on the Polk County censuses. Linda
Linda, Thanks for the info.. John said that he THOUGHT it was kept up, but didn't know for sure. He says he thinks he can find it! Any idea who Hazel CAVIN line was? Lanita Sconce Miller I'm always late. My ancestors arrived on the JUNE Flower!
Thanks so much for the census. I already had some of it listed, but you did find more than I had. I appreciate it!! Happy Hunting, Lanita Families are like fudge. Mostly sweet with a few nuts!
Union Grove is a very well kept cemetery. It is mowed regularly. It has a chain link fence around the perimeter. The "old" and "new" parts are full and a nice piece of land next to it was given as more burial space by Hazel Cavin before she passed away. Take 244th Rd south out of Tin Town and follow it on across Pomme de Terre River and up a grade and you will be at the cemetery. It is less than a mile from the Greene County line and not much farther to the Dallas County line on the east. I am doing an updated reading of the cemetery for the Polk County Genealogica Society in the future. Linda
Thanks Linda! I am assuming that it is in a cemetery that has been cared for? We tried the Burdett-Cavin Cemetery, it had grown up and was impossible to investigate. It that Union Grove Cemetery far from Pleasant Hope? Lanita Sconce Miller I'm always late. My ancestors arrived on the JUNE Flower!
