Seeking information on Rhoda Henderson and John Hunt. The John Hunt ,who died in Cole Co Mo., 1847. Has it been proven he is our John Hunt ?? Why is Rhoda (Henderson) Hunt in 1850 Polk Co Mo.?? John Hunt, who married Rhoda Henderson, living near Orleans,Mo in 1850 ,(many John Hunt's) maybe one of the California Gold-Seekers at that time as many on way to Gold Fields. I have a list of 1849, gathering in Westport (now Kansas City). Does anyone have the age of the John Hunt who died in Cole Co Mo., and also his burial place. ???? Thanks. Reva (California)
Hi all, I would say that there are at least four "musts" in Bolivar itself and many more in Polk County overall. These four musts are the courthouse on the town square. Then the Polk County Genealogical Society Library, also on the square. Then the Polk County Museum, located three blocks north of the square on Main Street. Also the Polk County Library, located a mile or two west of the square on Broadway or Highway 32. All of these have different, unique genealogical resources to help with research. One important thing to look for at the libraries is cemetery records and once you find where your family is buried, then you can get directions to your family cemetery. (Definitely a MUST for most people.) Well, that's all I can think of. Maybe some others can think of some that I missed. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/HMB.2ACE/1250 Message Board Post: My grandfather, Thomas F. HASH, married Mrs. Lizzie HOCKER on 12 Feb 1923 presumably in Polk Co., MO. They are on the 1930 California census living in Santa Paulo, Ventura Co. She is listed as having been born in Missouri and 45 years old. She is also listed as having been 24 years old at the time of her first marriage. I plan to send for her death certificate, but I don't know how much information will be on her death certificate since I don't know how much information my grandfather knew. For instance her first husband's name and the number of children she had and their names won't be on her death certificate, and possibly not her parent's names etc. Any information would be appreciated and I'm willing to share anything I find. Thank you, Andrea Eaton
I would recommend an museum in an old two-story brick schoolhouse just north of the square in Bolivar. You need to get someone there to guide you through it and tell you the local history about the things there. I don't know the name of the museum, but someone here could probably tell you more. I looked in cemetery directory and don't find him. Would have to know the date in order to find an obit. You might write to Jeff cy and check for death certificate. Of course this costs $10, but then you might also check SSDI. Good luck. He is listed in the 1920 census as living in Benton Township, but when his younger brother (my grandfather) passed away in 1929 George was not listed as a surviver. By 1920, George would have been 85 years old, so it is likely that he passed away in the early 1920s. This might be my summer to visit Polk County, something I have been wanting to do for a very long time. Are there some suggestions of things I should not miss in the genealogy field when visiting the area? My family were Everlys from around Van and Half Way and Tucks from the Morrisville area. If there are any Everlys in the area, I would dearly love to find them! Tucks too, of course. Thanks for any help! Bev Langley, BC Canada
