    3. I'm trying to locate information on a male Williams born about 1837 and died during the Civil War. On his son's Missouri death certificate, it states his name was Charles, born North Carolina. The 1860 Platte County, Missouri census gives his name as Frank. Other researchers of the Butner family have his name as Thomas. He married Harriett Butner (born 10 Nov 1840, Bethabara, Stokes Co, NC; died 14 June 1916, Cowiche, Yakima Co, WA; her second husband James Elliott; married 3 Mar 1872 Wilson Co, KS). Harriett is a daughter of Christian Harmon Butner (born Forsythe Co, NC; died Waldron Township, Platte Co, MO) and Maria Louisa 'Mary Eliza' Leinbach (Forsythe-Stokes Co area, NC; died Waldron Township, Platte Co, MO). Frank (Charles or Thomas) and Harriett are shown with one son (William, age 2, born MO) in the 1860 Platte Co, MO census. The 1870 Platte Co, MO census has Harriett living with her parents and two children, William and Mary E (born cir. 1862). Her third son, my great grandfather, was Thomas Henry Williams (born 6 Sept 1860; died 20 June 1929; buried Maryville, Nodaway Co, MO; married Rose Florence Branick 26 July 1881, Wilson Co, KS) Tom is living with one of his mother's brothers in Wilson Co, KS when the 1870 census was taken. I'm assuming Frank and Harriett were married in NC, probably not too long before the Butner family moved to MO. There is no marriage record in Platte Co, MO for them. My first question is-does this Frank (Charles or Thomas) fit in with anyone's NC Williams line? When and where were they married? What really happened to Frank (Charles or Thomas)-what unit did he serve with during the Civil War and where did he die? Thanks for the help! Bev Gardner Proud Mom of a United States Marine
