This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: McComas Heath Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/GMB.2ACE/608 Message Board Post: I have been trying to organize a group of people who are interested in genealogy to come to Platte County and help clean up the McComas Cemetery. It is located southwest of the old covered bridge on private property. The date(s) for the clean up are the weekend of October 20-21. I have a feeling that it may take an additional weekend so I am planning to be there on October 27-28 as well. Let's hope we can get most of it done the first weekend. I drove up to look at the cemetery on Saturday and it is worse than I remembered. I took some digital photos to share with volunteers what we are up against. I am also beginning to think beyond this initial clean up. Access to this cemetery is across private property. There is no path to it. The law in Missouri allows us to access it, nonetheless. Somehow, I am going to have to look into how we can make a drivable path to the cemetery, not just for the Clean Up Weekend, but for its future care. There is another cemetery, the Lutes Cem nearby, that I am using as my mental model. Someone has cleared a path, poured gravel on the path, put a fence around it, so that it can be mowed on a regular basis. This will require more thought, planning, etc. Maybe setting-up a non-profit group to accept donations for its upkeep. If anyone has suggestions or ideas about this, please let me know. In the meantime, these are the folks who are buried here: McComas Cemetery extracted from "Platte County MO Cemeteries" by Shirley L.
