This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Harrington, Jeter Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/GMB.2ACE/490.493.1 Message Board Post: Bill, Did you see my reply to this post last March. It was from various emails I had from old lookups. It shows in his bio that he was married 5 times and I think it even gives names and dates. In response to your first question of proof of marraige: Missouri Platte County Harrington, Miles married Jeter, Olive Ann on 25 Jul 1849 in Platte County, Missouri This was transcribed my Ancestry.com directly from the Platte County marraige book. I have looked through this book at the records office in the Platte County courthouse. It has records from 1839 to current day. The early ones are in a book that only gives the info above. No parents, pastor, etc. There is a Stephen English referred to many times in Paxtons Annals of Platte County. Most all refers to him renting, buying and running various mills in the county. He is also mentioned in "History of Clay and Platte Counties" as an early settler in the county. Again, no family info. Looking at the 1880 census CD, this is a good possibility: Census Place: Weston, Platte, Missouri Source: FHL Film 1254710 National Archives Film T9-0710 Page 30A Relation Sex Marr Race Age Birthplace Stephen ENGLISH Self M M W 62 MO Occ: Miller Fa: KY Mo: KY Eliza ENGLISH Wife F M W 60 NC Occ: Kpng Hse Fa: NC Mo: NC Ettie ENGLISH Dau F S W 14 KS Fa: MO Mo: NC James ENGLISH Son M S W 30 MO Occ: Laborer Fa: MO Mo: NC ========================================= The 1850 census has what appears to be the same family. I do find Columbia Jeter at age 4 in the 1850 census in the Hiram Jeter household. This might explain why there is no marraige with her last name to Stephen. It appears she was married to a Mitchell prior.
