    1. RE: [MOPIKE-L] Sarah Thompson Parsons
    2. Donna Price
    3. Hi Steve, Sarah (Sally Thompson) was not the wife of Joseph B. Parsons. Sally was the second wife of Joseph Parsons Sr. of Pittsylvania County. After Joseph Sr. died at a very old age, his son John Parsons purchased Sarah's widow's portion with the agreement that he would take care of her for the duration of her life, unless she remarried. I have a court document where John's son Levi was to appear before the court to answer the charge that he was the father of (can't remember her first name off the top of my head) ? Thompson's child. There was a younger female living with Joseph Sr. and Sarah in the Pittsylvania County, VA 1830 census between the ages of 20-30. Joseph was between the ages of 80-90 and Sarah was between 50-60. I have a copy of their marriage bond, if you would like it. Joseph Sr. died testate before January 20, 1834. He left his land on Cherrystone Creek to his grandson Joseph, son of John and Mishel Parsons. Joseph later sold this land and in the deed it was stated that it was the land that he had received from his grandfather, Joseph Parsons, decd. Joseph B. Parsons was the son of Samuel and Lucy Bailey Parsons. They left Pittsylvania sometime after 1810 for Kentucky. The lived in Rockcastle County, KY for a short time along with Samuel's brother Benjamin and Lucy's father Peter James Bailey and their families, then moved on to Logan County, KY where several of Lucy's brothers had settled. Jesse Parsons, another son of Samuel and Lucy, married a Hinton in Logan County. Samuel, Lucy and his children arrived in Pike County sometime abt. 1828. I have not been able to find the surname of Joseph's wife. She is not named in his will, but they were in the middle of a divorce. Joseph died before the divorce was finalized. Sarah appears in Lincoln County in the 1870 census and sold her share of land to three of her children and their spouses. She is also buried in the Parsons Cemetery next to Joseph. However, the dates that are on the tombstones are incorrect for their deaths. I'm descended from Joseph B. through his daughter Martha Jane who married Jonathan Davis.
