    3. BOWLING GREEN TIMES Thursday September 28, 1893 Corso Items Uncle Jon Davis a highly respected citizen who lived a few miles west of here died Tuesday morning and was buried Wednesday by the A.O.U.W. order of which he was a worthy member. BOWLING GREEN TIMES October 5, 1893 In Memoriam At his residence, near New Hartford, Mo., Mr. Jonathan Davis, of that terrible disease, consumption, on Sept. 24th 1893. S. S. Keith preached his funeral on the 26th in the presence of a large consourse of relatives and friends. His remains were interred at the family cemetery on the farm of Dave Parson. He was buried by the A.O.U.W. fraternity. Bro. Davis was a devoted member of Indian Creek Baptish Church. Bro. Davis was born July 15, 1863 (actual year 1837), in Tyler County, VA., being at his death 56 years, 4 months and a5 days old. He leaves a wife, three daughters and two sons to mourn his absence. "To know him was but to love him." A Bro. in Chirst. Jonathan Davis married Martha Jane Parsons, daughter of Joseph B. Parsons, November 6, 1854, in Pike County. He had a brother, Alexander and I believe Absalom Davis is also a brother, and sisters Harriet, who married Rowland Hill in VA, and Nancy, who married Jacob Bradford in VA. Jonathan and Rebecca Davis, as well as Absalom Davis came to Pike in abt. 1854. I did find another Alexander Davis, age 36, in Tyler County in the next household to Jonathan and Rebecca with Mary Ann, age 29, and Charles, age 10. I don't know how or if this Alexander connects to Jonathan. I have found on the internet that Jonathan, Sr. and Rebecca are buried in Smyrna Cemetery. Jonathan Sr. died May 26, 1860 and Rebecca died June 5, 1877. If someone has access to the Smyrna records, I would certainly appreciate a look-up to verify this. Napoleon Davis, son of Absalom, had a son, also named Absalom that is buried in the Parsons Cemetery near Rt. O. The cemetery record states, 'Absolom Davis, son of N. & A. S. Davis, b. July 26, 1875 -d. Aug. 21, 1875. I would like to learn the name of Napoleon's wife. Absalom Davis had sons Napoleon, died in Grenola, KS, Asa M., lived in West Plains, MO, and Mansfield T. Davis, who lived in Lawrence County, MO. His daughters were Elizabeth, married to Henry M. Hopke; Virginia, who married John J. Keith; and Emma who married John T. Malone. Absalom and his wife, Mary Holmes are supposedly buried in Mount Zion church cemetery, near New Hartford. Jonathan and Martha Jane had Elizabeth Ann Davis, wife of George J. Staten, Joseph Lee Davis, Harriet Jane Davis, wife of Fritz. C. Stroker, Sarah Rebecca Davis, wife of M.T. Wright, Nancy Louise Davis, wife of John Henry Parsons, and Thomas Jefferson Davis. I would like to exchange information with any descendants and appreciate any information anyone is willing to share. Thanks, Donna Price
