I just discovered my 2nd great grandfather, JEREMIAH C. VANNOY of Pike Co. came to southern OR in 1864. Are there others out there who have ancestors who came west at this time? I have several other queries on this list regarding his wife Jane F. MOSS--her parents, where she is buried after her 1859 death, etc. Still looking for information! Linda in Oregon
In my search for William Bartlett, when he applied to West Point, his guardian that was listed was Marshall Mann from Louisiana (City we believe). Since my last post, sks has sent me a short blip from History of Pike co, 1883 "The first hotel, or tavern, as it was then called, was located on the corner of Second and Georgia streets, where the National Hall now stands. This house was built in the spring of 1819, and was first kept by Obadiah Dickinson, and afterwards by Marshall Mann, and was conducted as a public house for twelve years." (p. 645) Would anybody have any other info regarding the above establishment.. or those associated with it... Tks.. Sheila
There was an earlier query on the list asking for information on James Hill Norvell of Pike County, Mo. At the time, I had nothing worthwhile to offer. However, I have discovered that there is an extensive GEDCOM on this person and his family on the Ancestry World Tree (which is free) located at Ancestry.com. I cannot remember the name of the person who was wanting this info, but I hope they receive this message and find the answers they seek. Vicki Norvell
Would some kind soul, lookup and post a list of the funeral homes in Pike County? I would like addresses and phone numbers as well so that I may contact them. Has anyone any connections with a McElroy Family in Pike County? I feel very sure that my Noah Hendrix married a McElroy probably in Kentucky, but she evidently was not living when he moved to Pike County in the early 1800's. The Rule Family may also have been connected to the McElroy Family. HR
Two questions: Does anyone know what funeral homes were in business in 1900? Anyone know who Hugh C. McPherson is? (same time period) NaLisa Brown
