    1. [MOPIKE-L] 1880 Census: Keith, Beck [Was: Canada Surname]
    2. You caught me while I had the right CD in for Missouri. This is from the 1880 census CD. You say "had" -- does this mean you no longer have it? My friend has a line in Pike co around that time: George Rason/Razin KEITH m 2nd 1856 [prob Pike co] to Margaret Ann CANNADY; land record places him in Jennings co, IN on 15 Mar 1837, but George and 1st wife Sarah "Sallie" DARNEL moved some time after that, and he was listed in 1840, 1850 and 1860 census as living in Peno Township, Pike co, MO. He apparently died 1900, so I suspect he would be in the same area circa 1880. Margaret possibly died before 1892 [marriage date of George to third wife Sarah Jane (EPPERSON) SINCLAIR]. George had 20 children with his three wives, and I can furnish names and some other info on request. Tandy Holdman KEITH [son of George and Margaret (CANNADY) KEITH] born 24 Jan 1868 in Pike co, MO. Married 17 Nov 1894 to Rebecca Ruyle HESKETT/ HASKETH. She may be listed with her parents' family in the area, too. They had 2 sons and a daughter. My friend's BECK line -- James Washington BECK and May Finette PARKS -- he didn't move to Pike county until after 1887, so would not be in Louisiana, MO in the 1880 census, of course. They had 3 sons, and after Nettie ran off with Oliver GARRETT, she had another son, probably in the Van Buren co, IA area. James and Nettie's son Carroll Alexander BECK m 1905 in Farber, Audraine co, MO to Iretta Margaret CLARK, and their 11 children were all born in Louisiana, MO. I am looking for the census info of course, if you still have the CD, but I have mentioned all the rest of this, in case anyone else can make a connection with these lines. Thanks for taking the time to read, Alie

    2. sonny moore
    3. Good afternoon everyone, I sure hope someone out there can help me find my family member Boston Taylor b abt 1808 Ohio. He traveled by boat down the Des Moines River (from IA) to Pike Co., MO. Not sure of time period but it would be after 1900 (I think). Boston died in Pike Co., MO but I do not have a date nor where he is buried. Can you help me find this information or any of his family?. Thank you so much for trying. Z

    3. Carol: Your post of children of Peter C. MOSS and his probate information cleared up at least one question for me: Who are all those "loose" Moss children in the 1850 Pike Co., MO census? Marriage info from the IGI shows (all in Pike Co., MO): (I looked for matches for the children on the list and heirs in probate.) Addie (Adaline) MOSS m. RE: Malinda She is listed in the 1860 and 1870 Pike Co., MO Census' living with Zerelda and James Colvin and their family. In 1860, she is listed as being 21 and a domestic. In 1870, she is listed as 32, and a "weaver in a w. factory." RE: Zerelda She dies in Davis, Murray Co., OK after the 1920 Census. She lives in Murray Co., from 1900-1920 with her widowed son, James Louis (or Lewis) Colvin. They ended up in Murray Co., after at least a short stint in Grayson Co., TX. Questions: Jefferson L. Moss and Lafayette J. Moss the same person? I see that Lenolte (Lenotta) is in your list of children, but not in the probate list. Is it possible that she and Zerelda are the same person? I ask because: 1. The information I have on Zerelda is consistent (fairly) from census to census and indicates she was born in Sep 1833. 2. I am unable to locate Zerelda in the 1850 Pike Co. Census and she is not yet married to Colvin. Malinda and Jefferson twins? Do you know how the people listed in the probate record but not in your list of children are connected? (Emaline, Walter W., James M., David H. and Lafayette) Don't you love how the answer to one question gives you more questions? Thanks for the info. Hope this helps you and we can exchange more. Zerelda, born abt. 1825 (married ? "Calvin" or "Colvin"). 5. Serepta, born abt. 1826 (married Thomas D. Ellis). 6. Lenolte, born abt 1833. 7. Jacob W., born abt. 1836. Served in Co. (information indicates possibly "JoAnne" or "Lucinda") 12. Adaline, born 21 Sept. 1843, died 1 Dec. 1942. (Married John Pierce Nichols). All were supposedly born in Pike Co., MO. The mother (name unknown) supposedly died shortly after the birth of Adaline. "Pike Co., MO. Probate Records - Book 3, pages 168 and 169" shows a "Peter C. MOSS Estate Bond of Administration" (recorded 15 Nov. 1843), which lists "Sally Ann Moss, Jeremiah Moss, Serepta Moss, Emaline Moss, Walter W. Moss, James M. Moss, Zerelda Moss, David H. Moss, Jacob W. Moss, Vincent Moss, Malinda Moss, Lafayette J. Moss, and Adaline A.Moss , all of Pike Co., MO., as his only heirs and legal representatives. The principal Administrator of the Estate is Mason ROSE, (and John A. WOODS and Richard G.DAVIS, as "his ?" [I cannot make out the word]). I have not been able to ascertain where Peter C. Moss is buried. My interest is with Malinda Moss (# 9), as I believe she may be my ggrandmother. Thank you. Carol Webster carol_webster@webtv.net ~~Carol Tarpley Webster~~

Looking for family ...Marshall Mann from Louisiana(City) Missouri. sks has sent me a short blip from History of Pike co, 1883 "The first hotel, or tavern, as it was then called, was located on the corner of Second and Georgia streets, where the National Hall now stands. This house was built in the spring of 1819, and was first kept by Obadiah Dickinson, and afterwards by Marshall Mann, and was conducted as a public house for twelve years." (p. 645) Would anybody have any other info regarding the above establishment.. or those associated with it... Dickinson Township was named for Maj. Obadiah Dickerson, who made a settlement on the prairie bearing his name...He was one of the founders of Palmyra, and the first bona fide settler of Shelby County, where he died... (--159.) Trying to find a lead on Marshall Mann or associates... Many Tks.. Sheila

JONES Son M S W 19 MO > Occ: Works On Farm Fa: KY Mo: MO > Lucinda SNEAD GDau F S W 9 MO > Fa: MO Mo: MO Here is my two cents. There are a few clues in the census info. William and his parents were born in KY while Lucind, or more likely Lucinda, was born in MO with her parents born in VA. Many, many Kentuckians moved to Missouri in the 1800's so I would guess the Jones migrated to Missouri and the two were married around 1850. I say this because the oldest child listed is 28, although there could be others older and not living at home. What I would do is to see if any of their children got social security number as an adult. If they lived into the 1930's or so there is a good chance they did to get various benifits and such. If so, you could get a copy of the original application. This would list the parents names which usually includes the mothers maiden name. If you have earlier census or can obtain it, sometimes you get lucky and it will list a mother-in-law or father-in-law living with a family which would also give you the maiden name. Another census may also give a middle initial for William. I recently tried to buy a book on Ebay about the history of Pike and few other counties but did not get it. Perhaps there is a bio out there in one of those books that may shed some light. On the other hand, she could be his second wife and throw it all out the window. Something from www.familysearch.org. William JONES Sex: M Marriage(s): Spouse: Lucinda MOSS Marriage: 17 Sep 1865 Pike, Missouri --------------------------------------------------------- With all the trouble I have with our unusual spelling, I cannot imagine having to research the Jones.
