Mr. Crisman was born near Red Oak, Iowa in 1868 and with his family moved to Kansas and Nebraska where he lived until about 1895. At that time he moved to Green Ridge, Missouri, or as he often recalled, he “rode a bicycle from Nebraska to Missouri.” Mrs. Crisman and their son, Homer, came shortly after the arrival of Mr. Crisman. Farming was engaged in by Mr. Crisman for a few years prior to the purchase of the Green Ridge Local News, then owned by Harry Farr. During the 22 years Mr. Crisman lived in Green Ridge the family increased by five daughters and one son, Mr. Crisman was interested in community affairs and his newspaper became a medium to aid community development. At one time he helped organize and direct the community brass band. He was a member of the former Methodist Episcopal Church. He also belonged to several fraternal orders but took most active part in the Masonic order. On several occasions he was master of the local Masonic Lodge! . In 1914 he was recognized in a special way by being appointed District Deputy Grand lecturer in the St. Louis District of the Grand Lodge until the time of his death. One of his most cherished possessions was a beautiful watch appropriately inscribed and presented to him by the local lodge on December 25, 1911. Apart from his newspaper interests Mr. Crisman engaged in a number of enterprises. Together with George Hollenbeck he built the first grain elevator in Green Ridge. Both men later disposed of their interests in this project. Mr. Crisman and the late John Ridenour then were engaged in the real estate business for several years. By 1917 the family needs had developed to such an extent that another move seemed necessary. Mr. Crisman and his son, Homer purchased the county seat newspaper in Ordway, Colorado, and the family moved to that Colorado community. While in Ordway Mr. Crisman’s community leadership ability was recognized when he was elected to membership in the state legislature. Following the close of the First World War the Crismans disposed of their newspaper interests in Ordway. Shortly after this Mr. Crisman moved to Pueblo, Colorado, where he edited a weekly newspaper until the time of his retirement at the age of seventy five years. Mrs. Crisman died in 1956 and at this time Mr. Crisman moved to Denver, Colorado to be near his two daughters living there. Mr. Crisman had enjoyed exceptional good health until shortly before his death which resulted from cerebral hemorrhage September 16, 1958. Funeral services were conducted in Peublo, Colorado on Friday, September 19 and burial by the side of Mrs. Crisman was in Valhallo Cemetery. Mr. Crisman had kept an active, lively interest in the members of his family and was greatly beloved by each member.
