PHILLIPS PASSED AWAY EARLY ON SATURDAY MORNING INTERMENT TO BE AT CLIFTON CITY Furnished the Data for His Own Obituary, Putting it on Paper January 2 - Retired as Minister Eight Years Ago Rev. W. N. Phillips, aged 67 years, died Saturday morning at 12:05 o'clock at his home, Fifteenth Street and Summit Avenue, death resulting from cancer of the jaw. Rev. Phillips was a Baptist minister and had served faithfully and well the cause of the Master for many years. His health compelled him to give up his pastoral duties eight years ago. He is survived by a widow, four sisters and two brothers, all of the sisters and brothers residing elsewhere. No children survive. Rev. Phillips, realizing that his death was only a short time away, on January 2, 1913, wrote the following data as an obituary notice for himself to be used after his passing. "I was born in Tennessee in the year 1846, Jan. 11, in Henderson County. My parents moved to Missouri in 1853, and I stayed with them until I was 18 years old. Then I joined the federal army and served two years. From St. Clair County I came to Pettis County and married Mary Potter April 28, 1867." "I was converted when 18 years old and soon afterward was called to preach. I was ordained in the Baptist Church May 18, and preached twenty-five years. I began preaching at Otterville and then went to Pleasant Hill Church, then Saline, Hopewell, Peninsula, Lamine, Camp Branch, Green Ridge, South Fork and Mount Zion. I witnessed 1,000 conversions, baptized 600 persons, and having fought the fight I am ready to be offered Farewell, comrades; meet me there. My address is Heaven - W. N. Phillips." The funeral will be held at 2 o'clock this afternoon at Clifton City, and interment will be near that place. The members of the funeral party will leave Sedalia this morning on M. K. & T. passenger train No. 2, at 6 o'clock, with the remains. The pallbearers will be selected from among friends of the deceased at Clifton City. Rev. Phillips was a well known divine and had a legion of friends in Pettis County who will sincerely mourn his passing.
