Obituary - Sedalia Daily Democrat, 4 August 1914 George Ross George Ross, an old resident of Pettis County, died at his home at Lamine, Pettis County, Saturday, August 1, and was laid to rest in the southeast corner of the family graveyard Sunday at the close of the day, under the giant oak trees that shelter the old homestead, by the side of the bride of his early manhood, Miss Martha Steelman, to whom he was united in marriage in 1862. Of this union were born eight children. Mr. Ross is survived by his second wife, six children, and one sister, viz: Miss Mary Ross, of Clifton; George and Zeak Ross, of Lamine; Minervie Farley and Anthony Ross, of Green Ridge; Belle Wilcox, of Sedalia; Ellie Harper, of near Hughesville; and several grandchildren. In October, 1896, Mr. Ross was united in marriage to Melissie Bollinger. This, too, was a happy union. They lived together eighteen years. The wife's care for him through his long illness was tender and faithful, and the grief of the lonely wife is beyond description. She has no children. Mr. Ross was born July 27, 1837. He professed faith in Christ early in life, and united with the Baptist church, but later in life he united with the Methodist church. He was always ready to serve his Master by preaching, teaching, or praying, as the occasion demanded. Rev. Thomas A. Huffine, of Otterville, delivered a most touching and eloquent sermon from Psalm 116:15, "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints."
