New info on the Morgan Co page for those interested: I just wanted to show off a couple of new projects at the Morgan County site. Over the last few months I've put together a system to harvest land patents from the General Land Office records, and arrange them geographically. It's easier to show than to explain how this works: see http://www.rootsweb.com/~momorgan/patents/ . You can click around a map of the county and see who was granted the original patent for any piece of land. This project is interlinked with a new transcription of the 1860 census at http://www.rootsweb.com/~momorgan/1860census/ . In this transcription I've included both the free and slave schedules, links to the land patents (in those cases where I've been able to identify someone in the census with someone in the patents), and indications of Civil War service (still work in progress). I'm hoping it will give a rich impression of life in Morgan County in the Civil War years. All the best, Peter Peter Binkley CC, Morgan and Miller Counties
