Surnames: Anderson Cantrell Sawford Coffman Momberg Goodknight Bohon Stevens Brown Loomis Allcorn Jones Leiter Gray Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/FMB.2ACE/2381 Message Board Post: The following was taken from the photocopied newspaper obits located in Anderson Family History compiled by Betty Lou Anderson Cantrell in 1968 and then “edited, updated, & expanded” by Joyce Marie Anderson Sawford and reprinted in 1995: Mrs. Roberta C. Anderson Mrs. Roberta C. Anderson, 85 years old, widow of the late George W. Anderson, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. E. S. Coffman, 1315 East Broadway, where she had resided for the past few months. Mrs. Anderson had been a partial invalid for several years but was always cheerful, an inspiration to all who knew her. She joined the Methodist church at Sardis, Miss. when she was very young. She was married to George W. Anderson, January 26, 1873, and in 1877 they moved south of Sedalia, where she made her home until recently. Her husband died May 20, 1891. Surviving are the following children: Mrs. C. L. Momberg, Mrs. C. O. Goodknight, Mrs. E. S. Coffman, Mrs. J. E. Bohon, and Mrs. E. C. Stevens, all of Sedalia; I. C. Anderson, of Lawton, Okla.; Mrs. Josie Brown, Indianapolis, Ind.; Mrs. R. A. Loomis, Kansas City, Kas.; J. E. Anderson of Auburn, Calif.; George B. Anderson of Petrolia, Texas. A daughter, Mrs. Lida Allcorn, preceded her in death several years ago. Surviving also are forty grandchildren and forty great grandchildren. All of her children were at her bedside except J. E. Anderson, of Auburn, Calif., whose wife is very ill. Funeral services will be held at 2 o’clock Sunday afternoon at the Flat Creek Baptist church. Rev. Jones, pastor of the Pleasant Hill church, of which she has been a member since it was organized, will officiate. Pallbearers will be George Momberg, Louis Momberg, Chas. Goodknight, William McCune, Leo Leiter, and Tommy Gray. End Also, there are two copies given, both are exactly the same, but I assume from different days since at the bottom is handwritten “from Sedalia, MO newspapers.” Also handwritten is “Feb. 28” next to the paragraph about the funeral services. At the top it states, “Roberta Clinton Bass born April 11, 1857 died Roberta C. Anderson—Feb. 25?, 1943.” The question mark is part of the original document. Also, there is something written in parenthesis between “Bass” and “born” but I cannot read it. There are also two notes that go with some asterisks that were added to the document. The document states that George B. Anderson was a surviving child, handwritten is the following, “Her son Geo. B., listed as surviving, actually died 12-31-1918!” Another asterisk is located by the paragraph where it states that her child J. E. Anderson wasn’t at her bedside because his wife was sick, this was added, “J. E.’s wife, listed as being very ill, actually died within days of her mother-in-law.”

If you have German ancestors who settled Cole Camp area of NE Benton, NW Morgan, SE Pettis Counties 1830s-1900, additional ships and ports have been listed at _http://members.aol.com/hrftx/Germans.htm_ (http://members.aol.com/hrftx/Germans.htm) and I can provide details from manifests. Since that cemetery has only about 30 percent read, I don't know if any of these other Ayers are there. All but one of the family and families of inlaws went to Pettis County from Illinois ca 1873. Some eventually settled in Lafayette and Jackson Counties and Oklahoma but no clue to the Ayers branch. Are there marriages in Pettis County that might include either of James Ayers' daughters if they survived? What became of this family? He is NOT the James H. Ayers in Kansas. Are they all buried at South Fork Cemetery? Are James' inlaws, John and Mary Beard, buried at South Fork Cemetery?

House, of Greenridge, a very promising lad of fifteen years, met with an accident Thursday evening which resulted in his death five minutes later. He removed a gun from a wagon, and in doing so he struck the hammer which caused the discharge of one barrel, the contents of which entered his nose and face, carrying away one side of his face and head. He only lived about five minutes, never spoke after the accident. Such casualties are too painfully frequent; there seems to be a fatality about such accidents, and yet there appears to be a criminal carelessness on the part of the young and old, in handling firearms. We extend to our friend, the Doctor and to his affflicted family, our sincere sympathy, in this the time of their great sorrow.
