Regarding the person posting the Gurney query, --I sent you a personal e-mail but for some reason it bounced. So I'm sending this to the list (sorry!) but here it is: Hello! Your query I received through the Pettis County ListServe and your query had nothing to do with the Calvin name, but obviously I spotted it immediately since you are IN an area that I have Calvins and your e-mail address contained the name!! Are your Calvins from around Sedalia? I have some Browns/Calvins from Sedalia, Greenridge area that I am just beginning to research. I recently obtained some very old pictures of people I believe to be the Calvins (James Calvin and Elizabeth (Brown) Calvin.....he being an emigrant from N. Ireland about 1880 and Elizabeth coming with her family from Circleville, Oh. Maybe you could help me identify the pics? Please let me know if you're interested!! I'm passing this on from another list: Researchers, Genealogists and the plain curious now can use the Internet to check more than 50 million historical records at the National Archives, from Civil War battles to family immigration files. Before the system became available, people either had to visit the Archives and spend hours combing through documents or request the files by phone and pay to have them mailed. Now you can pull these electronic records at your own convenience. Michael Carlson is the electronic and special media records director for the archives. It's totally self-service from your desktop. Hi A large source of leads to family-history data is now on line. It is comprised of the Tables of Contents of the first 22 volumes of the Missouri State Genealogical Association Journal, 1981-2002+. Importantly, below the Tables of Contents, is an index. Reviewers find the whole page easily navigated despite the great amount of data included. A few of the key words with which to search the index are county names, directions (east, south, north, west), and family surnames (for Bible records). Use your browsers search function. When you find interesting leads on the web page, you will probably want to see actual copies of the Journal. Many libraries subscribe to the Journal. There is also information, below the index on the web page, on how to obtain copies of articles or issues. One can get an idea as to the length of an article in the Journal by noting the page numbers where it begins and where the following article begins. However, some articles are serialized over two to four issues. The URL is <http://www.rollanet.org/~bdoerr/contents.htm>http://www.rollanet.org/~bdoerr/contents.htm >
Hello! THis is my first post to this list, so excuse me if this went to the wrong place(s)! I know somebody out there will set me straight! I am fairly NEW at researching this LINE: George and Sophie (Noggle) Brown had 6 children (all born in Ohio, I think) as follows: Elizabeth, b. 1867; Harriet, b. 1869; James W., b. 1872; Minnie (Winnie?), b. 1874; Charles, b. 1876; and Virdie, b. 1879 or 1880. They moved to Pettis County MO between 1880 and 1885. Elizabeth is my husband's line (the oldest child). She married James F. Calvin in Pettis Co. in 1885. One of their offspring (I need to find their other children, too) is Anna Belle Calvin who died young enough that at least one of her children had to be raised by HER OWN mother (the grandmother, Elizabeth Brown and James Calvin. Any pictures would be paid for or gladly traded for information, etc. Any info on these? Thankyou!
