Thanks for the information, boy that was fast! We will be traveling east on I-70, south on 65 and then from Sedalia to Green Ridge. From your directions, we should have no trouble. Another question occurred to me. Is the Green Ridge Congregational church still there? The Knapps and a Fowler family appear to have been original members. Would be interesting to talk to the minister since one of the Knapp girls married the founding minister. Again many thanks! Bob Dunn
Could some one please tell me the location of cemeteries around Green Ridge. Am looking for the graves of James H. and Lydia Currier Knapp (my ggrandfather and mother), who died in 1882 and 1909, respectively. Since I will be visiting later this month, any and all information would be most helpfull. Thanks in advance - Bob Dunn

I want to say "THANK YOU" for all who send me information on Pettis Co., MO as to where the Library and Court House were located, it helped a lot since I had just a short period of time to look, we live near Wichita, KS and was on our way to the middle of IL. The people in your Library and Court House were so nice and helpful. Was able to find where my GG. Grandfather Samuel Reed lived in Lafayette Co., Dover twp., MO., also information on his son Isaac and brother, Solomon. Thanks again, V. J. Fulkerson

FORMAN purchased property in Pettis County in 1856 and he is located in 1870 federal census living in Washington Township. Does anyone have access to the 1860 federal census to see if he's living on the property at that time? Thank you. Jerry Forman
Based on the attached information can someone tell me if David S. FORMAN is shown in the 1860 federal census of Pettis County? I found him on the 1870 federal census living in Washington Township: On October 4, 1856, John G. Fowler and Thomas A. Fowler sold to David Forman of Pike County, Illinois, the SW 1/4 Sec. 9 Twp 45-Rg 20 containing 160 acres and the N1/2 W1/2 SE1/4 Sec. 30 Twp 45-Rg 20 containing 40 acres, in Pettis County, MO for $1,200. This 160 acres was near Farmers City, a village that sprang up as the Pacific RR, later Missouri Pacific, now Union Pacific (1997), built through to what became Sedalia. The railroad touched the northeast corner of this 160, or would eventually about 1860. Farmers City just north and Price City just east quickly vanished, but Smithton and Sedalia remain and this farm was about half-way between them if you want to locate it on a map. The 40 acre woodlot was several miles southwest. However, no deed to the 160 acres could be found. The first farm had been sold to the Lamms (who still own most of it), prior to 1876. On August 11, 1874, D.S. Forman gave a mortgage to one William H. Forman (his brother), but the book it was recorded in could not be found. Any sharable information most greatly appreciated. Jefferson City News Tribune, June 24, 2003 New database delves back into state's legal history By CHRISTINA STUEVE News Tribune A new historical database of court cases will benefit law students, researchers and family genealogists. The database, available at www.sos.state.mo.us, allows researchers to look up Missouri Supreme Court records dating back to 1790. More than 7,000 cases from 1790-1851 are listed on the site. A partial listing of cases is available to 1871. The goal is to create an index for case files from the 18th-21st century. Currently, all cases prior to 1857 have been processed. "The database gives people a way to go back in time and look at cases of the time," Supreme Court spokeswoman Beth Riggert said. Slavery, duels, women's issues and economic problems are topics listed in the database. Other cases evolve from French fur trappers to steamboat cases of the Mark Twain era. Court dockets have names of prominent and unknown litigants. "This is a fascinating approach to understanding our state's history and the past," Secretary of State Matt Blunt said. The project was put together by Blunt's office, the Supreme Court and the Supreme Court of Missouri Historical Society. Funding comes from the Supreme Court of Missouri Historical Society. About $45,000 has been spent on the project before this year, Francis Duda, president of the Supreme Court of Missouri Historical Society said. The online case file project was started when the Missouri Supreme Court transferred its case files to the Missouri State Archives in 1971. In 2000, the Missouri State Archives and the Supreme Court of Missouri Historical Society started to provide better access to the Supreme Court case files.

He was murdered by his son joseph in sedalia, missouri in 1894. I have conflicting dates, penitentiary records have joseph in jail for murder, sentenced march 19, 1894 (noting he has no parents), but an article from there hometown in ohio is dated december of 1894. It may be it just took time for the news to reach ohio. If anybody can help me with this, it would be greatly appreciated.
