Obituary - Sedalia (Missouri) Democrat, 5 May 1954 Newton U. DeWitt Service Funeral services for Newton U. DeWitt, 42, of 119 East Walnut, who died Monday afternoon, were held at the Lamine Baptist Church at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Walter P. Arnold, pastor of the East Sedalia Baptist Church, officiated. Mrs. J. M. Stott and Mrs. P. W. Arnold sang "Beyond the Sunset" and "Abide With Me", accompanied by Mrs. Clyde Waters. Pallbearers were George Deuschle, Frank McMuleen, Jess DeWitt, Home DeWitt, George Ross and Derby DeWitt. Burial was in the Potter Cemetery.
Obituary - Sedalia (Missouri) Democrat, 30 April 1945 Mrs. Margaret DeWitt Mrs. Margaret DeWitt, 69 years old, wife of the late Rev. Joseph A. DeWitt, passed away at her home north of Beaman Sunday afternoon. She had been ill for fourteen months following a stroke of paralysis. Mrs. DeWitt was born near Postal May 17, 1875, the daughter of the late John and Eliza Wilson. She has lived her entire life in Postal and Beaman communities, where she was well known. She was married to Rev. Joseph A. DeWitt October 18, 1894, who preceded her in death March 15, 1945. Mrs. DeWitt is survived by five sons, Ollie DeWitt, Beaman; James DeWitt, Portsmouth, Virginia; Roy DeWitt, Pleasant Green; Oran DeWitt, Omaha; Elmer DeWitt of the home; five daughters, Mrs. Mae Price, Omaha; Mrs. Henry Vollrath, Sedalia; Mrs. Lee Vollrath, Green Ridge; Mrs. Cevia Sams, Madison, Wisconsin; Mrs. Emmett Wood, Detroit; one brother, Sterling Wilson, Blackwater; two sisters, Mrs. Rebecca DeWitt, Beaman; Mrs. Alta Williamson, Denver, Colorado. Thirty-two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren also survive. The body was taken to the Ewing Funeral Home and returned to the family home Monday afternoon, where funeral services will be held at 2:30 o'clock Thursday afternoon. Interment will be in the Potter family cemetery north of the Lamine church beside the grave of Rev. DeWitt.
Obituary - Sedalia (Missouri) Democrat, 26 November 1957 Leslie James DeWitt Leslie James DeWitt, 65, Nelson, died unexpectedly at 3:50 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 26, at Fitzgibbon Hospital, Marshall. He was born July 17, 1892, at Beaman, the son of the late Larkin and Anna Lee DeWitt. He was married Sept. 3, 1911, to Miss Maude Hanlin at Nelson. He was a farmer and a member of Memorial Baptist Church, Nelson. Funeral services will be at Peninsula Church at 2 p.m. Friday. The Rev. M. F. Butcher, Marshall, will officiate. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Maude DeWitt of the home; two sons, Raymond, Nelson, and Virgil DeWitt, Marshall; two daughters, Mrs. Douglas (Reba) Thomas, Marshall, and Mrs. Earl (Norene) Nichols, Marshall; a brother, William DeWitt, Beaman; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son who died in infancy. Burial will be in Peninsula Cemetery. The body will be taken from Hays-Painter Funeral Home to the family home Thursday afternoon, where it will lie in state until time for services.
Obituary - Sedalia (Missouri) Democrat, 3 January 1978 Joseph C. Dillard Joseph Cox Dillard, 70, 2205 South Harrison, died Sunday afternoon at Bothwell Hospital. He was born in Sedalia, Dec. 23, 1907, son of the late William R. and Grace Overstreet Dillard. On Oct. 7, 1939, he married Lois M. Potter, who survives of the home. Mr. Dillard graduated from Sedalia High School in 1925 and attended the Central Business College. He worked for the City Light & Traction co. from 1926 to 1935. He then moved to Three Rivers, Mich., where he worked for the Michigan Power Co. as supervisor of the accounting department until 1970, when he returned to Sedalia. He was a member of the Methodist church. Other survivors include a daughter, Mr. Linda Diane Johnson, Columbia; a brother, William R. Dillard, St. Louis; a sister, Grace Sievert, Wickenburg, Ariz.; and a grandson. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Heckart-Gillespie Colonial Chapel with the Rev. H. J. Hudson Jr. officiating. Pallbearers will be A. B. Case, John P. Edwards, Rainer Kocsis, Lawrence Mundy, Julius Stohr, and Seigel Woodard. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Obituary - Sedalia (Missouri) Democrat, 5 January 1978 James E. Farley James E. Farley, 59, 163 Autumn, died early Wednesday morning in Cass County. He was born June 11, 1918, in Ray County, the son of the late John S. and Anna McDonald Farley. He married Martha D. Buchanan, June 15, 1940, who survives of the home. Mr. Farley spent most of his life in Sedalia. He was employed in 1941 as a switchman with the Missouri Pacific Railroad and worked in Sedalia for 15 years, and out of Jefferson City for the past few years. He was a World War II veteran and served in China, Burma, and India for two years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, United Transportation Union, V.F.W., and the Sedalia Moose Lodge. Also surviving is a son, Michael Paul Farley, of the home. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the McLaughlin Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Lawrence Stewart officiating. Pallbearers will be John White, B. A. Fischer, H. C. Sullivan, Raymond Hunt, Leo Dick Jr., and James Robinson. Burial will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery.
Obituary - Sedalia (Missouri) Capital, 6 January 1906 DEATH OF J. H. POTTER Aged Resident of Otterville Passed Away Friday Morning Jabez H. Potter died at his home near Otterville Friday morning at 2 o'clock, aged 91 years. Mr. Potter had been in poor health for some time and his death was not unexpected. The deceased was a native Missourian and for many years a prominent and esteemed member of the Masonic order. For more than thirty years he had resided on the farm where he died. He was the owner of a general merchandise store in Otterville and also valuable farming lands and property in this city. A widow and five children survive him as follows: David and Miss Nellie, who reside at home; Mrs. Susan Adams, of Stony Point; James E., engaged in business at Clifton City; and George, residing on a farm near Otterville. Robert, another son, died a few months ago. The funeral services will be held under the auspices of the Masons at 12 o'clock today and he will be laid to rest in the Otterville cemetery.
Obituary - Sedalia (Missouri) Democrat, 22 June 1941 Jabez Hubbard Potter Jabez Hubbard Potter, aged 77, died at 7 o'clock Friday evening at his home, south of Otterville. Mr. Potter was born November 3, 1863 in Pettis County, the youngest son of the late J. H. and Susan Winders Potter. He moved to Morgan County when he was seven years old and had resided there since. He is the last of a family of eight children. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Mary Potter children, Mrs. Farold Clark, Sammy and Joseph Potter, of Otterville, and Miss Ada Potter, Kansas City. Funeral services will be held at the family home at 2:30 o'clock this afternoon, Rev. William Sampson, of Concordia, formerly pastor of the Methodist church in Otterville, to officiate. Pallbearers will be: J. Potter, J. E. Potter, Samuel Potter, J. W. Michaelson, J. H. Gunn, and Frank W. Hayes, the latter of Sedalia. Interment will be in the IOOF Cemetery.

Obituary - Sedalia (Missouri) Daily Capital, 23 November 1907 FUNERAL IN COOPER COUNTY Body of Mrs. Hannah Potter to be Buried at Old Home The body of Mrs. Hannah Potter, who died Thursday afternoon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. H. Phillips, Tenth and Mildred avenues, will be taken to Cooper County today for burial. Rev. R. C. Miller, of this city, will conduct the services which will be held at the Lamine Baptist Church at 1 o'clock this afternoon. Mrs. Potter was 81 years of age and had been ill for seven months. She was a member of the Baptist Church and is survived by nine children.
Obituary - Sedalia (Missouri) Democrat, 3 January 1958 Mrs. Gertrude Price Potter Mrs. Gertrude Price Potter, 68, Route 1, Smithton, died at 10:45 a.m. Wednesday at Bothwell Hospital, where she had been a patient the past two months. She had been in failing health for the past year. Mrs. Potter was born at Clifton City, Dec. 27, 1889, daughter of Calvin and Sarah DeWitt Gehringer. Most of her lifetime was spent in that community. In 1909, she was married to L. J. Potter. She was a member of the Providence Baptist Church. Surviving are her husband of the home; three sons, C. E. Potter, Route 5, Sedalia, Kenneth Potter, Otterville, and L. J. Potter, Jr., Kansas City; two sisters, Mrs. Tillie Needy and Mrs. Zeta Potter, Clifton City; two brothers, Theodore Gehringer, Columbia, and Brady Gehringer, New York City; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. The body was taken to the Gillespie Funeral Home, where funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, the Rev. Walter L. Fuqua to officiate. Burial will be in Providence Baptist Church Cemetery.
Obituary - Sedalia (Missouri) Democrat, 28 May 1978 Clarence S. Potter Clarence S. Potter, 83, 403 East 19th, died at 7:50 a.m. Thursday at the Brooking Park Geriatrics Center. He was born March 5, 1895, in Cooper County, son of the late Grant and Katherine Frank Potter. He was married to Bertha A. Schroeder in 1952, and she preceded him in death on Aug. 31, 1977. Mr. Potter was a lifelong resident of the Sedalia community. He was a farmer and a blacksmith helper for the Missouri Pacific Shops. He was a member of the Olive Branch Baptist Church. Survivors include a son, Clarence Potter, Lancaster, Calif.; four sisters, Mrs. Mable Holman, 923 Olsen Drive; Mrs. Mae Dugan, 519 West Third; Mrs. Julia Kell, Phoenix, Ariz.; Mrs. Dee Dee Decorpo, Englewood, Calif.; a brother, George Potter, Del Ray Beach, Fla.; and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Heckart-Gillespie Colonial Chapel with the Rev. Orval Woolery officiating. Pallbearers will be Eugene Grace, Robert Holman, Ed McMullin, O. A. Potter, Herbert Richards and Clay Thomas. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery.

She was born in Sedalia, Mo., and had lived in this area most of her life. Mrs. Sanders was a member of the Stony Point Christian Church. She leaves two daughters, Mrs. Marie Blanchard, 5640 Roswell, and Mrs. Helen Fullington, 240 Elmwood, both of Kansas City, Kansas; two brother, Frank Potter and Fogel Potter of Kansas City, Kansas; two sisters, Mrs. Alta McMullin, Sedalia, and Mrs. Minnie Skaggs, Cabool, Mo.; and six grandchildren. Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the Fulton-Nickel Chapel; burial in Chapel Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at the chapel.

He was born May 8, 1891, near Clifton City, son of the late John and Mollie Sheffer Potter. He married Mrs. Bessie Steidel Lee May 22, 1955. She died in 1967. He was also married to Ora Ellis, who died in 1953. Mr. Potter spent much of his life farming in Pettis County. He also was employed as a carman with the Missouri Pacific Railroad from 1943 to 1958. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Lodge No. 142 in Otterville, and a member of the Railway Carmen of America. Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Bill (Hazel) Richardson, 2913 East Ninth; one son, Ernest Greer, Knob Noster; one sister, Mrs. Grace Cox, Smithton; and three grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at the Ewing Funeral Home, with the Rev. Raymond Knox of the Broadway Baptist Mission officiating. Pallbearers will be William Hammond, James Green, Frank Mahalovich, Kenneth Glenn, Ellis Glenn and Stanley Gieschen. Burial will be in the Providence Cemetery.
