Conner, b. 1856 in Kentucky, married Ella Mae Gurnee 2 Feb 1879; Allen was the son of Moses Sharp Conner and Margaret F. Conkwright. Margaret was the sister of my great-grandmother, so I can fill you in on the Conkwrights and a little bit about the Conners. History of Pettis County (pub. 1882): Moses S. Conner. Sheriff of Pettis County. Among the public spirited men of Pettis County, Moses. S. Conner is a standard bearer. His father, James Conner, was a native of Kentucky, who died in Iowa in the year 1872. Moses S., the subject of this sketch, was born in Clark County, Kentucky, in 1825, and received the advantages of a good common school education. After he left school he followed the milling business for many years. In 1857 he moved to Missouri and located in Cooper County, where he resumed his trade until 1873, when he moved to Sedalia, and was employed in the MK & T round house for a time. In the spring of 1876 he was elected Constable of Sedalia township, which office he held until the fall of 1880, when he was elected Sheriff of Pettis County, which position he now holds. Moses S. Conner has filled the office of Sheriff with credit to himself and satisfaction to the people in general. He is a member of the Ori! ental Order, "Palm and Shell,' and has received quite a number of collections of specimens from the "Holy Land," which are furnished to all members of that order. Mr. Conner and his wife are members of the M.E. Church South, in high standing. He was married in the year 1848 to Margaret F. Conkwright, of Clark County, Ky., and has five children, Jno. W., James S., Allen H., Frederick P. and Jeff D.
Genealogists, particularly those interested in the use of technology, will meet in St. Louis from 22-24 January 2004 for NGS GENTECH 2004. December 1 is the deadline for the "early bird" registration discount. Since 1993, GENTECH has been the national conference for people interested in GENealogy and TECHnology. In 2002 GENTECH strengthened its infrastructure and expanded its role by becoming a division of the National Genealogical Society. Each year the conference has featured a panel of nationally known speakers who have addressed themselves to every aspect of the use of computer and Internet technology to support genealogical research - to meet the needs of advanced users as well as those just beginning to use technology in their research. This year there will be a special Librarian's Pre-Conference at NGS GENTECH Thursday, January 22, 2004. Details of this special Pre-Conference are at: www.slcl.lib.mo.us/slcl/sc/gentech04/precon-schedule.htm. Information on the entire NGS GENTECH conference can be found at: http://www.eshow2000.com/ngsgentech/register_now.cfm or at the St. Louis Genealogical Society website: www.stlgs.org/gentech2004 John Konvalinka, CGRS(sm), CGL(sm) www.konvalinka.com CGRS (Certified Genealogical Records Specialist) and CGL (Certified Genealogical Lecturer) are service marks of the Board for the Certification of Genealogists <http://www.BCGcertification.org> used under license by certified persons after periodic competency evaluations.
