The book is mostly history but I will look in it to see if any of your names are listed. Give me a couple of days to research. Taken from the book: "Goodspeed's History of Franklin, Jefferson, Washington, Crawford & Gasconade Counties Missouri" History of Missouri chapters, page 186 giving, "Dates of the organization of the counties, origin of their names, etc." Gasconade {county name}--Organized November 25, 1820. Named for the river; reduced to its present limits (nearly) in 1835. Hermann was laid out in 1837, and became the county seat in 1845. NOTE: This book was originally published in 1888. My reprint is from 1970. Information given here was from the original time period so county seats may have changed.

Does the book list any individual's names or is it just history? Would be interested in the origin of Gasconade county. Also, I'm looking for Henry Davind MOORE and Emma C (?) Moore who were the parents of James Lafayette Moore. James was born March 11, 1891 in Gasconade county, He was orphaned early in 1900s and lived with relatives (possibly CARROL or CARROLL or BAUMBACH or BAUMBACK). I'm searching for a needle in a haystack trying to find info on Henry and Emma.MOORE I found them on the 1900 census (before their deaths) Also, James worked for the Railroad (not sure of the name) in Sedalia (listed on the 1910 census in Sedalia). Does anyone know if there are employment records available somewhere. I'd appreciate any help anyone can give me. Thanks.

I gave my mother a copy of your messages and she was very excited. She has all the information on Eleanor and Wanda and more. She doesn't have access to the internet (yet) and at age 70 is looking into it! :) Please contact me at [email protected] to begin exchange of information. We have lots and lots and I am going to try to put it out here in my spare time but I don't have much of that right now. My mother is still in contact with Eleanor who still lives in Arizona. We were at Joplin last weekend and I listened to my mother and her brother and sister share stories. They are fresh in my mind and I can't wait to share them! I'm looking forward to hearing from you and/or anyone else interested in the information from my family.

Sacred Heart's parish has the record books for St. John's and Springfork, while the Calvary records are managed by a private individual. As for city directories, those are located at the Sedalia Public Library. The Library may also have records for Calvary cemetery, though I'm not sure. They do have records for the City Cemetery, Crown Hill, which is connected to Calvary. Let me know if you need any more information. Charles Wise [email protected]

    1. [MOPETTIS] OBIT-- PP McCune -- Philip Peter McCune -- LaMonte
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: McCune Dawson Franklin Underwood Price Duke Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/FMB.2ACE/1460 Message Board Post: This is an obit for Philip Peter McCune from an unknown newspaper (the paper does refer to LaMonte as "here", so I assume it was LaMonte's paper) from Feb. 6, 1911: Well Know Lamonte Postmaster Was Striken With Heart Failure. Postmaster Philip P. McCune, who has been in poor health for several months, experienced an attack of heart failure at his home in this city Monday afternoon. Dr. W. E. Walker, who had been summoned, was feeling his pulse when the heart ceased to beat shortly before 4 o'clock. Mr. McCune had been up and around about the house and premises during the day, and had conversed with some of the neighbors. In the morning he felt about as well as usual. Mr. McCune was born at Aldover, Wayne county, Ohio, July 8, 1840. At the beginning of the Civil War he enlisted in Company F, Sixty-fifth Ohio volunteer infantry. He soon became captain of his company and served in that capacity until the close of the war, participating in many of the most important battles and engagements. He was united in marriage to Miss L. E. Dawson, in Holmes county, Ohio on January 30, 1866, who survived him. To this union 9 children were born, five of whom survive, as follows: William D. and Roy P. McCune, who reside in California; Mrs. Ida Franklin, who lives near Sedalia; Mrs. Lucille Underwood, of Marcellus, Mich., and Harry L. McCune, who lives on a farm near Knobnoster. He is also survived by a brother, James W. McCune, of Holmesville, Ohio. Mr. and Mrs. McCune removed from Ohio to Dresden, Mo., in April, 1866, and in that year Mr. McCune united with the Christian church, of which Rev. Price was a pastor at the time. He later served as a deacon of the church and superintendent of the Sunday school. He was engaged in the mercantile business at Dresden for many years, and was postmaster at that place for a long time. In 1891 he removed with his family to Lamonte and was engaged in the mercantile business here for many years. About six years ago he was appointed postmaster here, which office he held up to the time of his death. A few weeks ago he forwarded his resignation to the postmaster general on account of failing health. He was always fair and just in all his dealings with his fellowmen and was geberous to the unfortunate. As a husband and father he ... may be truly said that a good man has gone to his reward. He was always active in the work of the church and served as deacon in the Lamonte Christian church for several years, and one of the greatest pleasures of his life was to make others happy. He had a kind word and a cheery smile for all and he will be missed by a large circle of friends. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. J. W. Ferrell at the Christian church at 10 o'clock Thursday morning. Rev. Ferrell paid a glowing tribute to the memory of the deceased. The floral offerings were numerous and beautiful. The internment was made in the Lamonte cemetery. The pallbearers were William Duke, Dr. J. P. Walker, O. P. Harris, W. H. Agee, V. E. Keller, and Thomas Terry.
