Soon after the disappearance of the child from the house, the mother started in search of it, and, on examing the spring, noticed that the water was muddy. After searching other places, she finally came back to the spring and, on stirring the water with a stick, the child arose to the top. How long the child had remained in the spring, we do not know, but life was entirely extinct when taken out.

Dr. Evans was a man universally esteemed by all who knew him. For many years he was a very successful practitioner in medicine, enjoying a large circle of friends and a lucrative practice, and only when age and the infirmities incident thereto prevented, did he desist from the active duties of his profession. He has been gradually failing for some months, and at last he sank to rest full of years and full of honors. The Doctors Evans of this city, are sons of the deceased, and we tender to them the sympathy of this community. We ask some one who is familiar with the history of the deceased, to furnish us with a fitting notice of his life, character and death. Funeral tomorrow, 10 a.m., at M.E. Church, Smithton.

McCormick, cousin of Sheriff McCormick, departed this life on the 5th of September, 1874, after an illness of about one week. His disease was pneumonia, although he had been in poor health for sometime past. Mr. McCormick was born in Mercer County, Ky on the 10th day of December, 1816, consequently he was in his 59th year. His father, Abraham McCormick, emigrated to this State in 1830, and settled on Flat Creek, in this county, in the same year. His family consisted of his wife, Sarah McCormick, and two daughters and three sons. At that time this county was a wilderness, only two or three families being in the southern part of the county. Now they have all gone to the spirit land except one son and one daughter. Mr. McCormick lived and died on the farm, his father improved forty-four years ago. He was esteemed by all who knew him and his death is a great bereavement to the whole community. But we hope our loss is his eternal gain, that he is now in the he! avenly land around the throne of God, and has clasped hands with his parents and other relatives who have preceded him in that beautiful land where parting shall be no more.
