While we're talking about surnames.I'm still hunting for information about my great-grandfather: Newton C. LAWS. He was born 6-11-1870 supposedly in Pemiscott County. By 1880 (census) he was living with a MEATTE family in New Madrid County and that's where he stayed the rest of his life. I haven't been able to find his ancestry in either county so far.
