When we would return to Cottonwood during the summer I couldn't wait to take a ride on the ferry. His name was Raymond Steele he was born in 1916. His parents were John & Maggie Steele. He worked for Carl Baker in the 30's & 40's. I have found memories of Cottonwood. I haven't been to Cottonwood since about 1980. It's fun reading the message boards. A lot of names are familiar from the many stories my Dad told us about.
I remember riding the ferry all the time at Cottonwood Point. My cousins lived in Blytheville, twp cousins lived in Ridgely and I lived in Dyersburg. My daddy would take us Tennessee cousins down to get on to the ferry. We'd ride across free because we weren't in a car. My uncle and cousins would be waiting on the other side. Then after I had stayed for a couple of weeks all of us cousins would head back to Cottonwood and ride the ferry back to Tennessee where we'd stay for a couple of weeks. We went back and forth all summer every summer when we were growing up. Ahhhh those were the days. Then when we were teenagers we'd ride back and forth on the ferry with our dates. That was the height of teenage romance!!
