    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Fox Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/EMB.2ACE/918 Message Board Post: My grandfather's brother, Barney Fox of Caruthersville, died on January 1st, 1922. The story we have always heard was that he was out that night, gambling and having fun with friends, and was mugged on his way home. He was able to make it to his father's house after he was attacked but died very soon after arriving home. Imagine our surprise when we looked at his death certificate using the online resources of the Missouri State Archives and instead of homicide, it claims he committed suicide. So we would very much like to find news articles or other information about Barney's death, if any newspaper archives exist. Unfortunately, none of us live in Missouri any more which makes things more difficult. I've tried contacting the Democrat Argus to see if they have an archive and, if so, if there was a fee to have someone search the archives. But I never got a reply. I've also tried the coroner's office for Pemiscot county but, unfortunately, the office didn't exist back then so the coroner probably came from another county. I have no idea which county, however. Has anyone any ideas what I can try next? I would be willing to hire someone to do my searching but I can't spend very much money on this. Thank You.

I have been told that his father was Huston Howell but I have no proof yet, and since his mother had only 1 child I am assuming she was not Houston's 1st wife becuase my mother-in-law said that her father , John Howell, had a sister named Laura who was married to a Norrid/Norred. My mother-in-law passed in 1999 so now it is just trying to prove the things she said, and find more Howell's. I just recently heard about the Howell reunion from Teresa May who has been posting here too.

His remains were never recovered. When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located. There are 78 families in Missouri that have not been located. There is one family from Pemiscot County that has not been located. When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (76 years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/.
