The house is a small house with a porch that goes around it on all sides. It is very easy to find as it is right directly across the road from the cottonwood baptist church. The last time I saw it (1980s) it had been repainted blue and white. I really appreciate your information on this. I just want to know if someone is still living in the house and hopefully it is not abandoned like many houses in that community were. Thanks again. You can email me direct at TMDimm@aol.com.

Tennessee abt 1865. His parents migrated to Maury county by 1880. His parents are William Rutherford and Rutha Ann Murr. Some of Sherman's siblings migrated to Madison Co. Tenn around the Medina and Oakfield vicinity and then some around Jackson. I am in contact with a descendant of Sherman's brother Preston "Press" Rutherford who died in Jackson, Madison Co. Tenn in 1940. In his obituary it stated his brother Sherman lived in Cottonwood, Missouri. This Rutherford family connects to the Sevier family, through the first Gov of Tenn John Sevier's sister Mary Sevier. I have lots of information on the Rutherford and Murr families and the Click family which I do extensive research on. Rutha Ann Murr's mother was Rachel Click. My 2nd great grandfather and Rachel Click were brother and sister. Please contact me atsissie@aol.com Carolyn Whitaker

    3. Hi Group, Just a quick note to let you know that more cemetery records have been added to Maple, Little Prairie & Morgan Ridge. If you have additional names, please send them to me! The more we have posted, the better chances we have of finding our ancestors! More names have been added to the surname list as well. Also, I just wanted ya'll to know what I'm doing in another county, to see if you'd like to do it here. I've started a tombstone picture project in Bibb County, Alabama. What people are doing there is sending me photos of the old tombstones. It has been great for researchers unable to get to Bibb County, to see actual pictures of the tombstones. If anyone with a digital camera has some spare time on their hands (right!!!) and feels like walking through Pemiscot County cemeteries, please help us out! All you would need to do is type the information out for me (pictures of tombstones are difficult to read sometimes) and attach the picture. I can crop the pictures & doctor them up if needed. The best pictures are those with burial dates prior to 1940/50 (The older the better!), but all pictures are welcome! If you want to see what the Bibb County pages look like, go here: http://www.rootsweb.com/~albibb/cemeteries/centrevillecem.htm If you're thinking about doing it, please let me (Marsha) know! Thanks, Marsha & Edward http://www.rootsweb.com/~mopemis2/

    1. [MOPemiscot] Missouri newspapers on microfilm
    2. Especially for Marsha: The State Historical Society of Missouri publishes and sells a book called "Missouri Newspapers on Microfilm." I believe my revised July 1997 edition cost less than $20. There is a slim possibility that this information is on the Net. The spiral-bound book is divided by counties and contains the names of all Missouri newspapers on microfilm at their Columbia library. Of course, many local libraries in the state have microfilm copies also. A good place to start searching for a 1938 Wardell obit might be the Hayti "Missouri Herald," a weekly newspaper with beginning and ending dates for the ones microfilmed by the Society being March 3, 1922 to Aug. 31, 1990. Another might be the Caruthersville Republican, (weekly) copies from Jan 4, 1917-Dec. 25, 1919 and from May 7, 1925 to Feb. 28, 1963. Or, the Democrat Argus (w,sw,tw) from Dec. 6, 1921-Aug 30, 1990. There are 16 newspapers listed for Pemiscot County in this book. Some were very short-lived. The Society has a limited staff. I am not sure if they still take requests and do look-ups, but it could take a while to receive an answer. Or, researchers can order in the microfilm via interlibrary loan if your local library has a microfilm reader available for its patrons. I suggest your readers contact local libraries to see if they have micofilmed newspapers available before contacting the Society. Hope this helps. Mary Sue Anton, New Madrid, Missouri native

Marsha Original Message ----- From: Briney Welborn To: iammbk@nc.rr.com Sent: Friday, November 15, 2002 3:13 PM Subject: Pemiscot_County In the Main Courtroom on the 3rd floor of the Courthouse behind the judge's bench on the wall is what appears to be the seal of Pemiscot County. It is a rendition of the Missouri Seal, but in the circle in the middle there is a clock showing 12:07. Under the clock are some waivy lines I take to be the Mississippi River. Do you have any idea why the time on the clock is 12:07, and whether or not it is am or pm. Briney Welborn
