    1. [MOPemiscot] Taylors in Pemiscot Co.MO
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Taylor Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/EMB.2ACE/721 Message Board Post: Tom and Nancy (Melton) Taylor were living in Caruthersville, MO (Pemiscot Co.) when Tom was killed by bushwackers. They had at least three boys, Albert, Bill, and John Daniel. Either Albert or Bill had at least two girls, Minnie and Nannie (I'm fairly sure it was Albert and I think he married Lavina Whittenten) (they moved to Steele, MO). Nancy, and Bill died of the fever around 1878 and John Daniel, at the age of 17 was told to leave the swampy area or he would die, too. I think now, John went to Decatur Co. TN with brother Albert and lived with Dr. Lycurgus Gates (son of W.C. or Woodson Clay Gates and wife Lucinda (Maiden name?)) and wife, Emily Fisher (daughter of Jacob F. Fisher). In the 1880 census, John and Albert are listed as cousins living with Lycurgus and family. John then went somewhere in Texas and then back to Decatur Co. TN where he married my great-grandmother, Fannie Anderson Tucker (grand-daughter of George Washington Tucker, 1st blacksmith in Decatur Co.) ! on February 19, 1893. (Their marriage bond was co-signed by J.T. Ownby, son of Columbus "Lum" and Margaret (Murphy) Ownby, he was married to Cynthia Ownby, both are buried in Friendship Cemetery, Crockett Co. TN) John was born on May 22, 1861 and died Sept. 24, 1913. John and Fannie had Albert (married to Beatrice Tucker, daughter of Reuben Houston Tucker), Bill, Ellison, Nannie, Vester (my grandfather, married to Maude Fisher),Betty, and maybe a girl named Mary (died at age of two). My grandfather, Vester and Maude (Fisher) had my dad, John Sidney Taylor, and daughters, Ann and Eve. I am desperately trying to find Tom and Nancy and what John Daniel did in Texas. There may be a possibility that Tom and Nancy were from Springfield, Ohio. I have my doubts about them being from Ohio though, on the TN census of 1910, John Daniel Taylor said both parents were born in Tennessee and my grandfather, Vester Taylor wrote on his army papers that his father (John Daniel Taylor) was born ! in Tennessee. Does anyone recognize this family? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Kim At one time, coming across the ferry at Cottonwood Point, my father and his dad, Vester laughed saying the Taylor boys could be cousins. I do not know if this is true.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/EMB.2ACE/720 Message Board Post: I am seeking information on the 1st wife of Elzie Wood(14 May 1887-17 Sept 1951). I think her name was Luna Wilhelem( or maybe Wilhelm?) The story goes that she (and the baby) died during childbirth. They are supposedly buried in a masoleum in Caruthersville (or maybe somewhere else in Pemiscot Co). Luna's family was from Caruthersville. Elzie's family lived in Braggadocio and in Holland. Elzie had married 2nd wife Jennie Harrison by 1919 and their only child was named after 1st wife Luna. I would like to find cemetery if possible.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/EMB.2ACE/717.1 Message Board Post: I believe the earliest newspaper available for Pemiscot County is the Caruthersville Democrat that has scattered issues starting in 1892. I'm sure there was a newspaper published in the county prior to that, but I don't think any copies are known to exist. The Pemiscot County Historical Society (housed in the Caruthersville Library) has microfilm copies of available newspapers and there are also microfilm copies at the Missouri State Historical Society Library Collection. You might check some of the newspapers from towns in neighboring counties (New Madrid Record, for instance, has some issues beginning in 1881). .

Enumerated in 1850 FED CEN in brother's home in Benton Co., TN R.N. or R.M. It is clear that this family is separated from Sarah Jane's parents since she and her siblings are enumerated with her brother's family in 1850. Her father was born in Tennessee and her mother was born in North Carolina. It was probably R.N. or R.M. Anderson's home in which she married. Please reply directly to gnbf@tampabay.rr.com
