Marie, From the e:mail trail that I have seen, nobody has told you where Bridges Township, Ozark County is. I thought some local expert would tell you (I live in Albany, NY). Here's what I have. If you make a rough map of Ozark County, and divide it into six townships, most of your work is done. The top three twps are just a bit taller than the bottom trio. The Top ones are, west to east, Marion, Jackson, Richland. The bottom three, west to east, are: Jasper, Bridges and Bayou. Bridges includes the town of Gainesville, which is in the middle top part of the twp, about five or six miles south of the northern border. As far as I can find, Ozark County was not divided into townships until the 1870 census. Until 1858, I believe, Ozark and Douglas county (just to the north) were one -- called Ozark County. At that time, the counties were separated, but not in time for a person living in Ozark County to do the federal census, so a man living in Douglas County, who had already been chosen, did it all -- without any reference to localities, such as townships, etc. The eastern end of Ozark county was carved off and added to Howell county (to the east) in the 1870s, I believe. All this area was originally part of Taney county (to the west). If it will be helpful to you, I can make a xerocopy of this map and snail:mail it to you.
