Not sure if this is any help or not, but my family that was living in Ozark County, MO moved to Douglas County between 1868 and 1900. Don't know if there was a reason for that or not, or if other families would have done the same thing, but just a thought. Douglas was formed from Ozark in 1857, so it wouldn't have been because the county lines changed. But never a bad idea to check neighboring counties. Linda, Thanks for your response. It's interesting that you mention Douglas Co because the family I believe William Coal/Cole married into moved to Douglas Co. after 1880. I think Malinda might have been a daughter of Gordon and Julia Forrest. Malinda's mother Julia was widowed and living in Ozark Co. in 1880 also. Thanks again.
