Wilma: I have seen MITCHELL spelled as MICHEL in some records, too, so you might want to try that spelling and any others that come to mind. The MITCHELL's were intermarried with my HIGH's in VA and NC in the late 1700's. Our MITCHELL's have been an elusive bunch to track, too. Good luck!! Ginny, Thank you! Yes, spelling is all over the place in Census's! I had a Dummit listed as Durnsmitt---when I look at the Census, I could'nt figure where that spelling came from. It was obviously Dummit! Sondex would not even come up with that one. Sonmetimes in searching, the indexed Census's, I will use only the first name in a County--narrows it down, and I can usually find the person or family I am seeking. Ancestry does not have Index for 1900 or 1910 Census, so it takes forever to go through every Twp. every page, and in some cases the surrounding Counties.
