    3. I see you know quite a lot of the Collins family, I hope you might know of my great great grandmother. Lydia Collins (or possibly Parsons) widow of Leroy Upshaw and later the 3rd wife of William Newton Alsup of Douglas Co. MO. I have been told her maiden name was Collins and then also Parsons. I can't seem to find anyone with proof either way. I would like to find out for sure who her parents were. It might possible be that her mother was a Collins and her dad a Parsons or the other way around. I hope someone can give me the straight of this puzzle. 2. I am trying to locate info on a James Wallace who was married to Hyla Duggins, daughter of Cage Duggins and Minerva Tabor. They were probably married between the time the census was taken in 1880 (Hyla was living with her brother Jack in Jackson Twp, Ozark County at the time the census was taken) and May 1881. James and Hyla had one daughter, Rose Etta, born February 1882. They were divorced by January, 1885. James may have been born between 1850-1859 (Hyla was born 1859). I have never been able to find any info on this man. Can anyone help? Bev Johnson

    2. Grainger County is the major county in TN for the Collins Families. I just noted I had left it out on the previous e-mail. Sorry about that !!! I also left out the Collins sisters Nellie (Eleanor) who married John Bull/Turnbull, and Peggy (Margaret) who married Solomon Dodson. There are three other daughters of David & Thompsey Posting Collins, but they are yet to be proven.

    2. Ruhana Collins was the daughter of David Collins & Juriah Day. David & Juriah were married in Knox Co., KY, 01-11-1822. Ruhana was born 20 October 1822 in Indianapolis, IN. She died 03 Jan 1899 at Pottersville, Howell Co., MO. David Collins was the son of Aaron & Mary Collins. Aaron Collins was the son of David Collins. Other members of this Collins family lived in Douglas, Howell & Ozark Counties of Missouri. The Collins families migrated from Grayson Co. VA to Wilks Co., NC, to Clairborne, Hawkins, Hancock (& neighboring counties) counties in TN then to Knox Co., KY to Morgan Co., IN. The major migration to Missouri occurred 1836-1837. Part of the family moved into AR and can be found in Sharpe Co. They are listed on the 1840 census in Taney Co., MO Isaiah Collins, Levi, David & Solomon Collins were other brothers of Aaron to migrate into the area.

    2. I would appreciate any connection you can provide me with to the story. I have within the past year published several local history books, and I understand what you are saying about the folklore or legend that gets inter-twined into our history. 2. Donna, Moses Lock Alsup was my gggrandfather. All of the men you listed are my family including James S. who was my great grandfather. The others were brothers to Moses Lock. I am researching the Richard T. and Mary Bennett family. In the 1850 Ozark census it shows Richard as 49 and born in NC; Mary is 40 and born in Kentucky. My great grandmother, Gincy Bennett was listed as 8 years old born in Mo. She married John R. Lord who also appears on the same census with his family as a 9 year old from Tennessee. I have much information on the Alsups, some on the Lord family but not much on the Bennetts. Hope some of these names catch someones attention. Pat Alsup Hardman

    1. [MOOZARK] MOOZARK-DIGEST VO #34
    2. Hello Everyone: Hope that I didn't miss a roll call. There sure has been a lot of activity on the list. I am a descendant of Joab and Clarinda Matkin Dent who appeared in the 1850 Census for Ozark County Missouri. Three of their seven children migrated to Kansas in the mid 1850s and we have found no evidence or documents to substantiate the disposition of their parents. Family legend indicates that they died and were buried near their farm possibly located near Thornfield, Ozark County or Cureall, Howell County. The Dent family was closely associated with the Endicott family during the early westward migrations of the19th Century. Joab and Clarinda's daughter Elizabeth was married to Samuel Endicott. Their son William, my first Great Grandfather was married to Mary"Polly" Endicott. Daughter Mary was married to Joseph Endicott who was killed at Baxter Springs, Kansas in 1863. The 1860 Census for Howell County, shows minor sons John C. and Lewis Dent residing in the household of sister Elizabeth Dent Endicott and husband Samuel. This would indicate that Joab and Clarinda probably died sometime during the 1850s or perhaps left the area leaving minor children behind. I have studied the plats of first land owners of Howell County, Missouri and an area of real interest is Sections 4 & 9 of Township 23 - Range 10, NW 1/4. Sixteen names appear in these sections and nine of them are Endicotts including two owned by Elizabeth Dent Endicott. Her brother, John C. Dent owned 160 acres or the NE quarter of Section 4. If Joab and Clarinda were buried on their farm, their graves are probably located in either F.C. 253, E 45029 or E 44687. I Have no idea where Township 23 is located, but perhaps it is someplace between Thornfield or Cureall. John C. Dent and Elizabeth Dent Endicott are buried in the cemetery in Pottersville, Howell County. John C. was married to Rebecca Tabor, so this may be of interest to the researcher listed in message 6 of VO 34. John C. served in Company K 16th Regiment Missouri Cavalry during the Civil War and I have obtained the pension paper pertaining to him and Rebecca. Reference: "Ozark County Missouri in 1850 compiled by Nancy Todd Weber". Rebecca Tabor was the daughter of Andy and Ruhaney Collins Tabor. Andy came to Missouri from East Tennessee in 1840. There is a little more information on Ruhaney. They are both buried in the cemetery in Pottersville and I can provide birth and death dates if the researcher wants this information. John C. and Rebecca had a son named Andrew V. Dent, born 18 August 1874, Died 29 July 1893. He is also buried in the cemetery in Pottersville. I have been following the migration routes from Maryland to Franklin County Virginia to Missouri. Recently the Franklin County List has contained a lot of information involving the Turner name (Message 3 of VO 34). There are five Turner families listed in the 1850 Ozark Census, # 68, 75, 76, 77 & 89. Tom Dent Vancouver, Washington
