    3. A more elaborate obituary from the Meta paper. Missouri death certificate agrees with 1947 date. Meta Herald Thursday 17 April 1947 M.S. PLASSMEYER, FREEBURG BANKER, DIED TUESDAY MORN. End comes to Noted Man at Maries Valley Home After a Long Illness While not entirely un-expected yet news of the death of Martin S. Plassmeyer at 5 o'clock Tuesday morning, came as a shock to his host of friends in Osage County who had hoped that he might overcome the illness which had held him bedfast for the past several weeks. Death came quietly in the big red brick farm home on the bankds of the Maries River where he spent his boyhood years, several days after he returned from St. Mary's Hospital in Jefferson City where he had undergone surgery earlier in the spring. Mr. Plassmeyer was a son of Joseph and Margaret Bode Plassmeyer, and was born at Westphalia on February 4, 1871, being 76 years, 2 months and 11 days of age when he died. In 1901 he was married to Miss Anna Heislen at Wardsville where he then conducted a general mercantile store and served the community as postmaster, a position of trust which he held for 16 years. After finishing the grades at Westphalia, he attended the Linn High school, going then to Wardsvillle where he bought the store from a man named Walthers. After 16 years at Wardsville, Mr. Plassmeyer sold out and came back to Westphalia where he bought the old home place which he developed into one of the model stock farms in Osage County. The commodious brick home stands on a knoll overlooking on three sides, the broad acres of the farm, the front facing the Maries river in one of the most beautiful settings in that region of fine farms and farm homes. Deceased had been connected with the Bank of Freeburg for 36 years, 27 of which he served as its president. Survivors beside the widow are three sons, Vincent J. of Jefferson City, William H. of Kansas City, Kansas, and Paul H. of the home; three daughters, Mrs. Edward Brandt of St. Louis, Mrs. Cornelius Loehner of Jefferson City, and Miss Agnes, former member of the WAVES at home. A daughter Angeline died in infancy. Two brothers and two sisters are also left behind; Rev. Father Theo. Plassmeyer OFM pastor of the Washington, MO Catholic Church, Lieut. Col. Jos. Plassmeyer retired of Westphalia Mrs. Henry Adrian and Mrs. Ben Schwartze both of Westphalia. There are 18 grandchildren. In the death of Martin Plassmeyer, Osage loses one of its foremost citizens whose efforts have added substantially to the advancement of his county and his community. He was progressive and industrious and his influence was felt and his advice sought far beyond the boundaries of his own locality. The funeral will be held Friday morning at 8:15 a.m. from St. Joseph Catholic Church at Westphalia, where deceased had long been a devoted member, by his pastor, Rev. Father B.C. Geldt, followed by burial in the parish cemetery. Morton Service.
