Obit., 1967 - mid-Missouri newspaper: Chester Gail Dies in Hospital Chester Murphy Gail, who had lived on Route 1, Linn, for the past seven years, died Monday July 24, 1967 at the Jefferson Barracks Hospital where he had been for the past 6 weeks. He had been ill since January 1, 1967 when he suffered a stroke at his home. Mr. Gail was born at Washington, Missouri on December 13, 1899, the son of Frank and Lu Ella Murphy Gail. On November 12, 1948 he was married to Laura Hengstenberg at Piggott, Arkansas. She survives. Other survivors include two brothers and one sister: Clarence and Forrest Gail, and Mrs. Ethel Rice, all of St. Louis. He was preceded in death by a brother, Sydney Gail. Mr. Gail was a veteran of World War I and II, having served in the Navy for 30 years, retiring as Navy Chief Petty Officer. He was a member of Fleet Reserve Association; and the International Union of Electrical and Machine Workers, AFL-CI0 1102. Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 26 at 3 p.m. at the Gottenstroeter Funeral Home at Owensvile with Rev. Arthur Schneider officiating. Burial was in the Owensville City Cemetery.
