    3. Obit., mid-Missouri newspaper, 1971: " Martin Backes, 61, of Loose Creek, Mo., died Tuesday, March 30, 1971, at his home. He was born Sept. 10, 1909 at Loose Creek, the son of Anton and Agnes Haslag Backes. He was married Sept. 17, 1936 to Miss Josephine Kremer, who survives. He was a lifelong member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Loose Creek; the Holy Name Society and the adult choir. He was a World War II veteran and had been in the poultry processing business for 38 years. Survivors in addition to his wife include; one son - Herbert Backes, Loose Creek; four daughters - Mrs. Vincent Huhn, Fulton, Mo.; Sister Joan Backes, Breese, Ill.; Mrs. Glen Green, Loose Creek; and Miss Evelyn Backes of the home; six brothers - Rev. Hugo Backes, Garrison, N. D.; Rev. Charles Backes, Mandan, N. D.; Rev. Raymond Backes, Carson, N. D.; Lawrence Backes and Adolph Backes, both of Loose Creek; three sisters - Sister Antonice Backes, SSND, Knoxville, Iowa; Mrs. Homer Volk, Joplin, Mo.; and Mrs. Herbert Williams, Loose Creek. Funeral services with the Morton Service were held at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Loose Creek, with the Rev. Hugo, Raymond and Charles Backes conducting the concelebrated Mass and Rev. Kevin Gormley, master of ceremonies. Also present in the sanctuary were Rev. Anthony Goellner, Chamois; and Rev. John Long of Wardsville and Rev. Behan of Folk. The large Loose Creek church was filled to capacity with hundreds of sorrowing relatives and friends gathered to pay a last tribute of respect to Mr. Backes and his family. Military grave side services were led by Linn Post VFW following the committal service. Burial was at Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Loose Creek."
