Obit., issue Aug. 7, 1972, Unterrified Democrat: " Louis Balkenbush, 81, a native of Linn, died in a hospital in Denver, Colo., Saturday. He had been in poor health several months. Mr. Balkenbush, son of Herman and Sybilla Fisher Balkenbush, was born at Linn. He was married May 8, 1917 to Miss Bettie Porting at Sacred Heart Church in Rich Fountain. She survives. Mr. and Mrs. Balkenbush celebrated their golden wedding anniversary at the same church five years ago. The couple moved to Colorado over 40 years ago. Surviving with the widow are two sons, Norbert and Edgar Balkenbush, both of Denver; two daughters, Mrs. Joe Stout of California and Miss Bette Marie of the home; one brother, Joseph Balkenbush of Linn, and several grandchildren. He was a life long member of the Catholic Church. Funeral services were held in Denver Wednesday."
