Loose Creek Resident Dies of Heart Attack on 10 April 1966 Joseph Herman Grefrath, one of Loose Creek's best known citizens died suddenly early Easter Sunday morning at his home in Loose Creek, the victim of a heart attack. He had been in failing health for some time, however his sudden passing came as a distinct shock to everyone. He was born at Loose Creek on June 13, 1890, the son of Gustave Grefrath and his wife Sophia Schetzler Grefrath, and at the time of his passing he was 75 years, 9 months and 27 days of age. On October 15, 1915 he was united in marriage to Miss Theresa Kremer, who survives him together with 3 daughters and six sons. They are: Rita (Mrs. John Kliethermes) Ames, Iowa, Bernice (Mrs. August Nilges), and Mary (Mrs. Joe Haslag), both of Loose Creek. The sons are Bernard, Loose Creek, Edmund Grefrath, Boulder, Colorado, Raymond, Joe, Herbert and Norbert Grefrath all of Loose Creek. There are 2 sisters, Mrs. Louis Kremer of Loose Creek and Mrs. Dena Dampf of Jefferson City. These together with 34 Grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren are the immediate surviving relatives. Mr. Grefrath was a life long member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Loose Creek, where he attended the parish schools. He was a member of the Holy Name Society of that parish. Mr. Grefrath was the custodian of the Immaculate Conception Church and Schools at Loose Creek for many years until his health began to fail some time ago. He and Mrs. Grefrath had just finished their breakfast Sunday morning and he had gotten up from the table to go into the kitchen when the fatal attack struck him and he died almost instantly. The Rosary was recited at the Morton Chapel in Linn Monday and Tuesday evening at 7:30 p.m. and the Requiem funeral Mass was conducted at the Immaculate Conception Church in Loose Creek Wednesday morning at 9:30 o'clock with a Priest from the LaSalette Seminary officiating. Interment was in the Parish Cemetery at Loose Creek. The Pallbearers who served were: Eddie Grefrath, Raymond Haslag, August Nilges Jr., Edmund Reinsch, Danny Grefrath and Robert Ortmeyer.
