Obituary, 1975 -mid-Missouri newspaper: "Ben. J. Berhorst, St., 87, Freeburg, died Saturday evening, Dec. 13, 1975, at St. Mary's Health Center, after a lengthy illness. Mr. Berhorst was born Nov. 17, 1888, in Rich Fountain, the son of Phillip and Mary Wiegers Berhorst. He was married on Oct. 17, 1929, in St. Louis to Louise Marie Bock, who survives. He was in the saw mill and lumber business in Freeburg for 50 years and also farmed extensively. Mr. Berhorst was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church, Freeburg, and also belonged to the Holy Name Society. Other survivors include: two sons, Ben Berhorst, Jr., and Daniel Berhorst, both of Freeburg; four daughters, Mrs. Cornelius Redel and Mrs. Jos. Weidinger, both of St. Louis; and Mrs. Mary Louise Bagneschi and Mrs. Michael McKenzie, both of San Francisco, Calif.; a sister, Miss Betty Berhorst, Jefferson City, and 21 grandchildren. Services were held Tuesday at the Holy Family Church in Freeburg with Father Hugh Behan officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery."
