Obituary - 1976, Unterrified Democrat: "Mrs. Gertrude Bexten, 55, Westphalia, died Wednesday morning following a long illness. She was born Jan. 18, 1920 in Freeburg, the daughter of Henry and Agnes Bauer Brendel. Her mother survives. She was married Nov. 26, 1941 in Rich Fountain to Steve Bexten, who survives at the home. Mrs. Bexten was an employee of Chesebrough-Ponds, Inc., and was a member of the St. Joseph church, Westphalia and the St. Ann's Sodality. Other survivors include: two sons - Steven H. Bexten, Westphalia; and Edward B. Bexten of the home; three daughters - Mrs. Rosie Viet, St. Charles; Mrs. Margaret Mebruer, Rich Fountain; and Mrs. Carol Maasen, Bonnots Mill; three brothers - Ernie Brendel, St. Martins; Herman Brendel and Ted Brendel, both of Westphalia; four sisters, Mrs. Regina Rothove, Jefferson City; Mrs. Emma Rackers, Taos; Mrs. Rose Strano, Trenton, N. J.; and Mrs. Ida Lynn, Laural, Md.; and 12 grandchildren. Funeral services were under the direction of the Dulle Funeral Home, Westphalia. Services will be held Saturday in St. Joseph"s Church, Westphalia with Rev. peter Walsh officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery."
