Obit., 1976 - mid-Missouri newspaper: " Mrs. Melissa Balkenbusch, 84, formerly of Holts Summit, died at 1 p.m. Tuesday (March 30, 1976) at a Jefferson City hospital where she had been a patient for the past week. Mrs. Balkenbusch had been in ill health for several years. A native of Belle, Mrs. Balkenbusch was born Oct. 26, 1892, the daughter of Vincent and Sarah Jane Gillespie Duncan. On Sept . 8, 1908, at Linn, she was married to Frank C. Balkenbusch, who died July 21, 1967. Mrs. Balkenbusch attended the rural Osage County schools and had made her home in Jefferson City most of her life. She was a member of the First Baptist Church here, and the Amona Sunday School Class. Survivors include; three sons, Herbert A. (bud) Balkenbusch, Jefferson City; Howard Balkenbusch, Fort Wayne, Ind.; and John Balkenbusch, Tulsa, Okla.; three daughters, Mrs. Edgar Fricke, Indianapolis, Ind.; Mrs. James Duffy, Montclair, Calif.; and Mrs. James Kilby, Jefferson City; 18 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. The funeral will be conducted Thursday at the Buescher Memorial Home with the Rev. B. Nelson Duke officiating. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery."
