Obit., mid-Missouri newspaper, 1968 - "Obituary of Elizabeth Cartier" "Nelle Cartier (nee Flanagan), died at St. Louis County Hospital on the morning of August 29, 1968 at the age of 86 years, 7 months and 29 days. The funeral was held at Holy Redeemer Church, Webster Groves, on August 31 with burial in Resurrection Cemetery, St. Louis County. Elizabeth Nelle Flanagan was the first child of William and Catherine Moran Flanagan, born in Linn, Osage County, Missouri on January 31, 1882. For several years she taught school in Osage County. On February 11, 1907, in Linn, she married Victor Emil Cartier, a son of Hypolyte Urban and Constance Senevey Cartier. Commenting on the wedding the "Unterrified Democrat" of Linn said: "____ the bride has always been a favorite in social circles, is intelligent and attractive___ With these splendid qualities of heart that has endured her to many friends." The "Osage County Enterprise" of February 14, 1907 said in part: " The groom is a popular young man of Bonnots Mill and the son of Squire Cartier......... the bride is one of Osage County's best school teachers and an accomplished young lady." Two children were born of this union - Urban Arthur in 1908, who died in 1954, and Catherine Mary in 1918 who married Gregory R. Lucy and lives in Webster Groves. After the birth of their only son, Nelle and Victor Cartier moved to St. Louis where her husband was with the Merchant Exchange almost up to the time of his death in 1955. She is survived by the one daughter, nine grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren."
