Obit., mid-Missouri newspaper, 1975: " Mrs. Lorene Helmig, 47, Independence, formerly of Linn, died Monday, Feb. 17, 1975, in an Independence hospital. She was born Sept. 21, 1927, at Linn, the daughter of Home Earl and Ruby Tharp Malan. On March 2, 1946, she was married to Nelson Helmig at Kansas City, Kansas. He survives at the home. Other survivors include: one son, Paul Helmig of the home; one daughter, Mrs. Sandra Bryant, Independence; and one brother, Homer E. Malan, Huntington, Texas. Mrs. Helmig was a life-long member of the Solid Rock Baptist Church near Linn. Funeral services were Friday at the Morton Chapel, Linn. The Rev. Neil Terwilliger officiating. Burial was in the Fairview Cemetery near Linn."
