Obit., mid-Missouri newspaper, 1972: " John J. Gelven, 81, of Linn, died early Friday (March 10, 1972) at the Boone County Hospital in Columbia. Mr. Gelven was born January 1, 1891, near Linn, the son of Peter and Elizabeth Plassmeyer Gelven. He was married Dec. 8, 1919 at Jefferson City to Miss Mary Lucindia Robinson, who survives. He was manager of the Gasconade Power & Light for many years. He also helped with the work of the REA in the area by getting farmers to sign for the program when the coop was started. Mr. Gelven was an overseas veteran of World War I. Other survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Ray McCleary, Linn; one sister, Mrs. George Mitchell, Arkansas City, Kans.; two grandchildren , Robert McCleary and Mrs. Rhonda Phillips, both of Linn, and two great grandchildren. Services were held Sunday at the Morton Chapel in Linn, with the Rev. Leo Hellmann officiating. Burial was in Linn Cemetery."
