Mr. Giesing was born June 16, 1926, at Chamois, the son of Edward and Jane Townsley Giesing. He was married to Fern Tripp, who survives. Other survivors include 8 sons, Kenneth of Holts Summit, William of Henley, Robert serving with the U. S. Marines in Japan, Norbert, William Jr., Leslie, Henry, and Eddie Giesing, all of the home. Six daughters, Mrs. Alice Gardner, Jefferson City; Mrs. Judity Gibbs, Little Hockings, Ohio, Mrs. Ann Grothoff, Hazelwood, Mrs. Jane Bay, Holts Summit; Mrs. Juanita Palmer, state of California, and Miss Kay Giesing of the home. Six brothers, Gerald of Omaha, Nebraska, Harold of Grandview, Raymond, St. Louis; Henry, Jacksonville, Florida; Oliver, Linn; Norbert, Lohman and 20 grandchildren. Mr. Giesing attended the Chamois parochial school. He was a veteran of World War II and a member of Roy Sone Post No. 1003, Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was also a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Buescher Memorial Chapel in Jefferson City. Burial was in Resurrection Cemetery.

Obit, mid-Missouri newspaper, 1971 - Mrs. Gillen Dies at Age of 73 Services for Mrs. Josephine Maasen Gillen, 73, were held Monday March 29, 1971, in the Cunningham Sacred Heart Church in Cunningham, Kingman County, Kansas, with the Rev. Father Roble, officiating. Burial was in the Cunningham Church Cemetery. Mrs. Gillen was born July 22 1897 in Linn, Missouri and died at 1:30 a.m. Friday, March 26th, in the Pratt County Hospital, following a long illness. At the age of 18 she moved to the Willowdale community and married Aloysius J. Gillen, August 30, 1916. They had been residents of Cunningham for the last 45 years. Mr. Gillen died January 1, 1968. Surviving are daughters, Mrs. Eugene (Suzanne) Kitson, Cunningham, Mrs. Avery (Johanna) Shumway, Preston; and Mrs. Theodore (Martha) Ogle, Chardon, Ohio; a son Vincent of Lyons; and brothers, Herman Maasen, Jefferson City, and Joe Maasen, Linn, There are 15 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

Edward L Gaumen, son of August and Macy Gaume was born April 17, 1877. He was 55 years, 1 month, and 3 days old at the time of his death. He was married to Laura Baclesse November 2, 1904 and to this union one son, Walter, was born. His entire married life was spent on a farm near his childhood home.

Mid-Missouri newspaper obituary, 1976 Joseph Greil, 51, Dies At Hospital "Joseph F Greil, 51, of Westphalia, died Wednesday, November 3, 1976 at a Columbia hospital following an illness of about six months. A native of St. Louis, Mr. Greil was born May 22, 1925, the son of Joseph Greil and Eva Greil. His wife was the former Miss Shirley June Allen of Westphalia, who survives. Mr. Greil was a 10-year veteran of the military service with service during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He also served as a member of the St. Louis Fire Department for 15 years. Other survivors include: two sons, Ronald G Greil, St. Louis, and Stanley J Greil, Warrensburg; one sister, Mrs. Betty Jane Luck, St. Louis. Three daughters, Mrs. Gwenda Richbourg, Miss Pamel and Miss Debra Greil, all of Westphalia, his mother, Mrs. Eva Greil, St. Louis, and 3 grandchildren. A memorial service was held in St. Louis. The body was donated to the University of Missouri, Columbia. Memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society have been suggested."

Mr. Gerling was born February 11, 1901 in Miller County, Missouri, the son of Herman and Sophia Hollenbeck Gerling. He was married August 5, 1925 to the former Miss Veronica Bax, who survives. Mr. Gerling was a retired mechanic formerly employed by the Blackwell Garage, here for a number of years. Other survivors include: Four sons, Edgar Gerling and Theodore Gerling, both of Jefferson City, Norbert Gerling, Antioch, California, and Leroy Gerling, New Bloomfield. Six daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Neeley, St. Martin's, Mrs. Norma Buckley, and Mrs. Lucille Lock, both of O'Fallon, Mrs. Mildred Beauchamp, Mexico, Mrs. Marjorie Pefenengen, Jefferson City, and Mrs. Mary Jane Lock, St. Peters; 37 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, at St. Peter's Catholic Church, here with the Rev. Father Short officiating. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery. The rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, at the Claypool Funeral Home, New Bloomfield.

He is survived by his wife, Catherine, and four children, Jean, Barbara, Joseph and Steven. Mrs. Grothe is the former Catherine Staggenborg, the granddaughter of the late Theodore and Julia Heinen. Among those attending the funeral of Mr. Grothe were Mr. and Mrs. Frank Helmig and Mrs. Ida Hausmann of Loose Creek, Rev. Father Herbert Holterman of Mountain View, Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Nolte, Mr. and Mrs Joseph Beritz and son, and Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Tellman and daughter, all of St. Louis, and Mr. and Mrs. John Ochterbeck of Chesterfield.

(Buell) Gilbert, native of Osage County was born at Lane, near Linn, on May 12, 1893, the son of Edward A Gilbert and his wife, Cora Herndon Gilbert, and passed away at the Roy H Laird Memorial Hospital in Kilgore, Texas, January 28, 1966 after a 3 month illness. He was a retired barber of Kilgore and had resided in that area for the past 35 years. He is survived by his widow and 3 sons, Buell, Jr., Eddie M Gilbert of Houston, Texas and Phillip Gilbert of Longview, Texas. He is survived by 4 brothers and 4 sisters. They are: Orville Gilbert, Paraguld, Arkansas, Dr. Edward Gilbert, Cape Girardeau, Missouri, Tremain (Jimmy) Gilbert, Phoenix, Arizona and Frances Gilbert, Levasy, Missouri. The sisters are: Mrs. May Brown, Hagerstown, Indiana, Mrs. Lora Langendoerffer, Chamois, and Mrs. Cora Boillet, Linn. Also surviving are 3 half sisters, Mrs. Joe Lippish, Mrs. Bud Tabor and Mrs. Bertha Roberts all of St. Louis, and his step mother, Mrs. Sarah Ballard of Burned Prairie, Illinois and many other Osage County relatives. Buell, as he was known by his many friends in this area, was a veteran of World War I. He was a member of the Laird Hill Baptist Church near Kilgore, Texas, the Kilgore Lions Club, the American Legion and Rocky Mount Masonic Lodge No. 62. Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon at 2:00 pm.m at the Laird Hill Baptist Church near Kilgore, with Rev. V. M. Napper officiating. Burial was in the Kilgore Cemetery."

Mr. Balkenbush was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic church, Westphalia, where services will be held Friday, with the Rev. John Dignan officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Mr. Balkenbush was also a member of the Holy Name Sodality and the Knights of Columbus, council No. 1171. The rosary will be recited Wednesday at the Dulle Funeral Home, Westphalia."

He was born at Meta, Mo., March 5, 1882, where he grew to manhood and was married, moving to Granite City shortly thereafter. His wife, Eleanor, preceded him in death. Survivors include: three sons, Ralph Barnhart, St.Louis; Fred of Edwardsville, Ill.; and Wm. of St. Louis. One son, Clay, preceded him in death. There are seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He has many relative in the Meta area. Funeral services were held Jan. 22, at the Mercer Mortuary Chapel in Granite City. Interment was in St. John's Cemetery there. Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Barnhart of Meta attended the funeral services."

Mrs. Boessen was born Aug. 10, 1895, at Loose Creek, the daughter of Jacob and Henriett Haslag Lock. She was married to Joseph E. Boessen Nov. 28, 1918. He survives. Other survivors include: three sons, Harry Boessen, New Bloomfield; Ralph Boessen, Jefferson City; and James Boessen of the home; one daughter, Miss Layrine Boessen of the home; one son, Raymond Boessen preceded her in death. Eight grandchildren also survive. Mrs. Boessen was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church, Loose Creek and of St. Ann's Sodality of that parish. Funeral services will be held Friday at the Immaculate Conception Church, Loose Creek, with the Rev. Kevin Gromley officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. The Morton Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements."

Her attended the St. Thomas parochial school and was a life long resident of the St. Thomas community where he was engaged in farming. He served in the Army of the United States during World War I. He was a member of the St. Thomas Catholic church where services will be conducted Friday with the Rev. James Owens officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. He was a member of the Holy name Sodality. He was also a member of Post No. 545, the American Legion, St. Elizabeth. Survivors included 12 nieces and nephews."

Death occurred Sunday evening, January 25, (1976). Mr. Balkenbush was born April 19, 1884, at Linn, the son of Herman and Sybilla Fisher Balkenbush. He was self employed in real estate sales. He was married to Annie C. Boillot at Linn. She passed away Nov. 15, 1935. On April 23, 1936, he was married to Mary C. Voss at Omaha, Nebr.. She survives. Also surviving are two sons, Ray Balkenbush, Denver, Colo.; and Everett Balkenbush, Linn; one daughter, Mrs. Albin (Helen) Bret of Tucson, Ariz.; and five grandchildren. One brother, Herman Balkenbush of St. Louis also survives. He was a charter member of St. George Branch S. C. U. and of St. George Catholic Church where services will be held Thursday. Rev. Wm. Bolin of St. Louis and Rev. Kevin Gromley of Loose Creek will officiate at the service. Burial will be in St. George Cemetery at Linn. Rosary service is scheduled for Wednesday at the Morton Funeral Chapel."

She was born Jan. 18, 1920 in Freeburg, the daughter of Henry and Agnes Bauer Brendel. Her mother survives. She was married Nov. 26, 1941 in Rich Fountain to Steve Bexten, who survives at the home. Mrs. Bexten was an employee of Chesebrough-Ponds, Inc., and was a member of the St. Joseph church, Westphalia and the St. Ann's Sodality. Other survivors include: two sons - Steven H. Bexten, Westphalia; and Edward B. Bexten of the home; three daughters - Mrs. Rosie Viet, St. Charles; Mrs. Margaret Mebruer, Rich Fountain; and Mrs. Carol Maasen, Bonnots Mill; three brothers - Ernie Brendel, St. Martins; Herman Brendel and Ted Brendel, both of Westphalia; four sisters, Mrs. Regina Rothove, Jefferson City; Mrs. Emma Rackers, Taos; Mrs. Rose Strano, Trenton, N. Mr. Burkholder retired to this area from the mercantile business in Illinois. He was born Sept. 10, 1885 in Illinois. Surviving is one daughter, Ruth Pinnell of Westphalia, and several brothers. Funeral services were held at the R. L. D. S. Church east of Linn today. Burial followed in the church cemetery."

She was killed when the horse she was riding struck a trailer and was killed instantly. Janet was 20 years old. She attended college in Springfield. The horse was a gift from her uncle. Her mother and family lived in St. Louis. Her father preceded her in death several years ago. Her mother was the former Camille James, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arch James of here (Freeburg). She was married to the late Jack Beers. Our deepest sympathy to the family."
