William E. Gaines 37 years old was on the Randolph, AR 1860 with his wife Elizabeth R., daughters Mary E., Josephine C., sons John W., and Robert Gaines. I would also like to know William E. Gaines death date and if he had a probate. His daughter Josephine died in 1899. I don't know if she died in Oregon Co., MO or in AR. Her youngest son was only 4 years old in 1900 and he along with three of his other brothers were in Lawrence Co. AR in 1900. >From the 1870 Moore twp. Oregon Co. MO. census it appears that William E. Gaines and his second wife, Elizabeth Wells had two sons; Charles and Joseph. In 1880, all of the Gaines children from John on down were living in Moore twp. Oregon Co. MO. No parents were listed, so it looks like William was dead by then. I have found something that has gotten me very interested. I found a marriage in Randolph Co. AR. for William Gaines and Malinda Rider or Ridle dated 1873. Malinda Wells Riddle was the sister in law of Elizabeth Wells. William Gaines also married Elizabeth Wells in Randolph Co. AR. In 1880 all the younger children of Malinda and Francis Riddle were living with other families and listed as orphans. Could it be possible that Elizabeth Wells died and William married for a third time? Do you know the death date for William Gaines? Do you know if he had a probate? The maiden name of Elizabeth Wells was Honea. She was from the Jackson/Marshall Co. area in Alabama. Noreen
